Week 2 of the season began with a cold front (52 Degrees) moving in with 15 miles per hour winds out of the north. It was an ear muff day for the Commish. The game was on Field C (old field D) and the sun was super bright today. It made for an interesting defense for the left side of the infield and outfield. This game was between the visiting team Fabians Flyers and the home team O'Callaghan's Legions. Jerry Witter pitched for the Legion and Rick Brock pitched for the Flyers. The first inning produced one run out of the Legion and the second inning was scoreless. The Flyers got their bats working in the top of the third inning with 5 runs and the Legion only managed to score two runs. The Flyers went scoreless for three innings while the Legion scored two runs each inning. The Flyers got their bats working again in the top of the seventh inning and tied the score 9-9. The Legion scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and five more in the bottom of the eighth. Final score was Legion 16 - Flyers 9. The Hitters for the Flyers were: Kirk Coffman 4/5, Alf Gibbons 3/4, Mike Kasperek 3/5, Rick Brock 3/5 and Bill Rutam 3/5. The Hitters for the Legion were: Jim Hunter 4/4, Don Witmer 4/4, Don Torok 3/3, George Knox 3/4, Bob Hammond 3/4 and Mike O'Callaghan 3/4.
Let me remind everyone again, Slide or Peel Off when going into second or third base if a play is being made on you. Ducking does not count. If contact is made to a defensive player, the baserunner is automatically out and the runner closest to home is also out. Senior Softball is not a contact sport.
