Elmer Black's Nationals played the Fighting Coconuts today and won after good play on both sides. Final score was Nationals 20 and Coconuts 12. The game was close until the late innings when excellent hitting by the Nationals gave them the lead for good.
Leading all hitters for Elmer's team were Bill Testa and Denny Shaffer who both hit 4/4. Well done!
Bob Hite, Ron Pepin, Jerry DeJongh, Allan Miller, Tom Kniery, Herbie Muniz, and Pat LoPiccolo all made big impact with 3/4 hitting. Wayne Shearer had a big rbi hit late in the game to drive in several runs.
For the Coconuts, leading hitters were Gary Burtner, Tommy Capozzi, and B.J. Kallister who all hit 3/4. Gerry DeRidder continues to hit long balls for a triple and a double. John Gibson came through with 2 good hits.
Pitchers on both sides did their job without using the bullpen.
