 Friday, May 6th

Another beautiful day in Florida to play softball. This morning's temp was 70 degrees and was around 80 degrees when the game finished. I hope all of our friends that had to go north are enjoying their weather and are getting to play softball. We look forward to everyone coming back next year. This week, we had 30 National League players on Tuesday and 28 National League players on Friday. Jimmy Laffoon is recovering from another knee surgery, Bob Vandenberg had surgery on his shoulder and I am hobbling around waiting for my knee to get better. We miss playing softball. Now for the game.

Very much the opposite of Tuesday when a total of 49 runs were scored, as the teams led by Fred Gonzalez and Robert Spitaleri only mustered 23 runs between the 2 teams.   Unfortunately the Freddy led  team only scored 1 in the 1st and 5 in the 3rd for a final of 17-6 in favor of the Spitaleri team. It was still a fun but quick game and again umpired by Don Witmer.

I can't do the hitters as one team didn't keep the sheet for 2 of the innings. I do remember that Herb Muniz hit another ball to the fence for his 3rd round-tripper in as many games.
Stay tuned for updates as the summer league progresses.
See y'all Tuesday

A very high scoring game today between teams led by Steve Hill and Robert Spitaleri. A total of 49 runs scored with the Hill led team ending up on top 25-24 in spite of trailing the majority of the game. At the start of the 6th inning, Team Hill was down by 10 runs and when Team Hill entered the bottom of the 9th inning, they were down 4 runs. There were a few errors but many more hits as everyone had their hitting shoes on. Here are the hitters.

Spitaleri team
  5 hits. Gonzalez.
  4 hits. Spitaleri, B.J.,
3 hits. Zelazny, Boito, Marino, Learn
  2 hits. DeRidder,  Coffman

  4 hits. Maynard w/sac
  3 hits. Hill, O'Callaghan, Meyer w/HR,

Excellent umpiring by Don Witmer and Bob Vandenberg who are both on the mend and hoping to return to action soon.

 NOTICE    NOTICE     NOTICE     NOTICE     NOTICE

I think everyone knows that the start time for our games has been changed to 9:00 AM. Everyone needs to be there no later than 8:30 AM. It is important that we have an accurate count of players that want to play ball in order to determine how many teams that we will have. Lately, there have been several players that have shown up around 8:45 AM after we have made the decision on how many teams that we will have that day. This has resulted in 15 players on a team which ain't no fun. If everyone will get there on time, we will try to make sure that does not happen. If you are going to be late, call me at 863.860.5381 and I will sign you in. If you are an American League player that wants to play in the National League because there are not enough American League players, you need to sign in so I will know what you want to do.

Thanks,

Don Witmer, Commissioner

NATIONAL LEAGUE

A very well played game led by Bob Zelazny and Steve Hill. By the 5th inning, Z-team was leading 14-5 but Steve's team mustered 7 more runs in the last 3 innings countered by 6 from the Z-team for a final of 20-12 in favor of Zelazny.
Robert Spitaleri continues throwing out runner with one trying to score, but cut down at the plate and another not getting back to first on a line drive. Best to quit running on his arm. 😆
Herb Muniz made a fine running catch behind 1st base of a pop fly with momentum carrying him to the fence for a soft crash.

Hill's hitters
  3 hits. Boswell
  2 hits. Reagan, Shaffer, Coffman,
              Castilleja, Dowdy, Poke

Zelazny hitters
  4 hits. Levesque
3 hits. Zelazny, B.J., Boito, Shearer
  2 hits. Gonzalez,  Jacob's, Marino,
              Hawbaker,
Thats all folks. See y'all Tuesday

AMERICAN LEAGUE

We had enough players today to have an American League game. We put 20 players on Field C and Joe D'Herin caught and umpired for both teams. It was a close one and JD's team came back in the bottom of the 9th and won the game.
