 Winter Haven American League Update.

On Thursday, May 18th, 2023, the Winter Haven traveling team embarked on a journey to Solivita for a three-team tournament. The first game was against the Solivita Red, White, and Blue team. Our team, sporting purple shirts and sleek new gray shorts, played a tight game. Solivita drew first blood, scoring in the first inning. After that, it was a back-and-forth battle until the top of the 7th. Solivita was up 13-12. With two outs already, Dana Ferrande hit a double, Rob Aponte hit a base hit, and Greg Ramos came up and hit a double to right field, scoring the winning run. The final score was Solivita 13, Winter Haven 14.
In game two, we faced off against the Kissimmee team. We scored four runs in the first inning, but we didn't score again until the fourth. By that time, Kissimmee had taken a 13-7 lead. Despite some missed opportunities, we weren't able to score enough to win, and we lost 10-16. We ended up with a 1-1 record, Kissimmee went 1-1, and Solivita went 0-2.
We plan to return on June 1st for a two-game set with Solivita.
Notable hits included two home runs by Don Fee and Rob Aponte, and a 6/7 performance by Dana Ferrande.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament, despite the scorching 80+ degree heat.

Games Lineup: Steve Sole, Lou Guzman, Don Fee, Dave Doerbaum, Dana Ferrande, Rob Aponte, Greg Ramos, Tommy Hamilton, Jose "J-Rod" Rodriguez, Al Guzzo, Rusty Skipper, Rawlinson Santaella

UPDATE ON NORM LEARN AND LOREN FABIAN

Norm is doing fine since his release from the hospital. He is doing physical therapy at his house for now but will continue with physical therapy at an outreach clinic in a couple of weeks. He anticipates coming back to the ballpark in August. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the ballpark.

Loren was released from the hospital yesterday and is doing fine. Loren experienced severe Dehydration while he was umpiring the game Tuesday morning. The EMT's recommended he go to the hospital for an IV to quickly replace the fluids his body lost. This worked great and he will be with us on Friday morning at the ballpark.

Summer is approaching us fast. Temperatures are beginning to rise and we need to be aware of getting overheated while playing ball. Please bring you something cool to drink while playing ball. The Board will be putting out the water cooler and cups beginning on Friday and the high velocity fan will be placed in the National League dugout to be used during the game. If you feel faint, don't be embarrassed to sit out an inning in the shade. We will make it work. Games may be shortened when the temperatures begin to get excessive.
