Field E. National league 3 team game between King, Hite and Strait. The final in a well fought and played game was King 16, Hite 15 and Strait 10.
I want to apologize for not doing a write up last week when Tom Copozzi was 4-4 after his double knee replacement. Welcome back Tom who had a heck of a game playing middle infielder on King's team today. He caught everything and made every play including 2 double plays.
I will also give myself a pat for my first day back after 4 months and getting 3 hits. Feels so darn good gang. Beats the heck out of living in Embassy Suites. I truly enjoyed this morning.
Tom C. did have a heck of a game but on the down side, Larry Chrest got a wrenched back in the last inning, but said it will be ok soon.
Strait hitters. S. Hill. 3-4.  Dean Schapeler 3-4. Andrews 3-4. Marino 2-3. Acetta HR.

Hite hitters. Chrest 3-5. Hite 3-5. Newton 3-5. Herbie O 4-4. Burtner 4-5. Learn 2-5. Powell 3-5.

King hitters. Capozzi 3-4. King 2-4. D Hill 2-4 w/hr. Ridley 2-4. Rutan 3-4. Fabian 3-4. Castillo 3-4. LOOK AT THIS. JIMMY MCPARTLAN 4-4 wonderful. L. Baker 2-4. Minder 2-4.

Kings team put up 6 in the 6th to tie it after trailing the entire game and then 4 in the top of the 7th with 2 outs to take the lead and hold on for the win.
It was so much fun.

Larry S. You gotta manage again. Talk to him Sally.

Happy Halloween Game, Friday, 10/27
Sing along with me.
“They are creepy and they’re kookie, mysterious and spooky
They're all together ooky, the WHSS family
They are old enough to be in a museum, when people come to see-em, They really are a scre-um the WHSS Family.”
The American League game at the Diamondplex was a treat, and both teams supplied a few tricks. The first treat the players experienced was the weather; it was a perfect softball day, sunny, light breeze and temps in the mid 70’s. The 2nd treat was the game itself, a close battle between friends, that was really fun to play.
Maybe this game can answer the Halloween television question which was the better show The Munsters, or The Addams Family?
Team Munsters, Visitors: Reagan, Hamilton, Shirer, Jacobson, JD, Pepin, Shapler, Coffman, Boswell, Constantine and Torok.
Team Addams Family, Home: Hicks, Guzzo, Doerbaum, Guzman, Matta, Zelazny, Book, Butler, Burns, Pinnick and Wells.
The Munsters started out hitting like they were stuck in a moat. They played like grandpa Munster, only scoring a single run in the first two innings. The Addams Family started out with panache, just like Gomez Addams. “Cara Mia”, the team came out hitting. Hicks singled, Guzzo hit a double, Doerbaum doubled off the fence, Guzman, Matta and Zelazny all singled. Book then walked and Burns capped off the inning with a single, to drive in the 5th run. In all, 7 out of the first 8 batters reached base that inning. We were on a terror. After 2 innings the score was Munsters:1-Adams Family: 5.
Both teams hammered the ball in the 3rd inning. Constantine, Reagan, Hamilton, Shirer and JD hit as hard as Herman Munster driving a sledge hammer. They scored 5 runs. Not to be outdone, the Addams Family answered the doorbell with “Lurch”, the butler, power, when we batted in the bottom of the inning. Doerbaum, Guzman, Matta, Book, Butler and Burns all had monster hits. We rang up 5 runs of our own. (You rang). After 3 innings the score was Munsters: 6 -Addams Family: 10.
Both teams continued to be frightfully good with the bats throughout the game. Hits and runs were handed out like someone handing out Halloween candy by the fistful. By the 9th inning the Addams Family team held a 5-run lead, 23-18. The Munsters came up to bat with bad intentions, they wanted to rally and lock up the Addams team in an Egyptian burial sarcophagus. However, their nightmare never materialized, they were chained up by Josh Wells and placed in the dungeon, they were shut out in the 9th. Final Score, Munsters: 19- Addams family: 23. The Addams Family team was happier than uncle Fester in a room full of light bulbs.
Leading Hitters, Visitors:
Reagan: 5/5 with a HR.
Hamilton: 4/5.
Jacobson: 3/4 with a SF.
JD: 4/5.
Constantine: 4/4 with two doubles.
Coffman: 3/5 with a triple.
Leading Hitters, Home:
Hicks: 5/5 with a double.
Guzzo: 3/5 with two doubles and a HR.
Doerbaum: 4/5, with three doubles.
Guzman: 4/5 with two doubles.
Matta: 5/5.
Book: 3/5 with a double.
Butler: 3/5.
***Burns***: 5/5 with three triples, a double and a single.
Great fielding plays by Louis Guzman who made a couple of nice catches on line drives hit to the OF. Nice job by Al Guzzo who turned a pair of DPs. Nice defensive plays in the OF by Dave Shirer and Bobby Reagan.

Thirty four players showed up today at the Diamond Plex to play softball.  Weather forecast was for rain but no rain came and a 3 team game was played.
Before we get to the game, I again would like to thank all of the players at WHSS league for the shirts that were donated to the 75 Plus softball league in Livonia Michigan.  84 men signed up for the start but a few dropped out before we started.  We had 4 teams, 2 teams with Winter Haven shirts and 2 teams with Lake Wales shirts.  (By the way Winter Haven came in first and second.)  Thanks again from all 4 teams that had a great season.
Zelazny’s Hit team lined up like this.  Hicks, Hill, Cobb, Book, Zelazny, Spittleri, Minder, Hite, Navarro, Thompson and G. Baker.
D’Herin’s Sit team had D”Herin leading off, Scarbrough, Toto, Torok, Marino, Capozzi, Castillega, Witter, Newton, Bess and L. Baker.
Gonzalez’s Field team batted in this order,  Dampier, Gonzalez, Jacobson, Boswell, Rutan, Coffman, Goreth, Burtner, Johnson, Lopiccolo, LaMay and Merritt.
All 3 teams scored in the first inning with Zelazny’ team winning the first with 2 runs, sit and field teams each scored 1.  Second all post “0’s”.  Two more run for Z’s team in the third.  Fourth inning had D’Herin’s team with one run and Gonzalez’s team scored 2.  End of 4 score was 5-2-3.
Gonzalez’s team scored 3 runs in the 6th to take a one run lead, but Zelazny’s team tallied 6 runs to take the lead.  Final score was Hit (and the did hit) 11, Sit team 2 and Field team 6.  Low scoring game but well played.
Standout performances  by Steve Hill with 3 for 4 with 2 Homeruns and  Bill Rutan 2 for 2 with a sac fly that scored 2 runs, also Hicks was 3 for 4 with HR and  Book 4 for 4.
This writer will be here for one more game and then go back to Michigan and make snowballs and return after Thanksgiving.

Friday the 13th

We had a great three team game today. Team Matta had a strong lineup with Scarborough, Matta, Tony Q,, Castelleggo, BJ, Crowell, Morton, Herbie, Accetta, Wells, and L Baker. While they had four scoreless innings, they manged to put enough runs up to be only two runs behind going into the last inning. Team Zelazny had Sherer, Hill, Rutan, Book, Zelazny, King, Marino, Hawbaker, Bess, LaPiccillo, and G Baker. They jumped out to an early lead scoring four in the first inning. Unfortunately the had three scoreless innings and only managed four more runs through six to retain their lead. Team Gonzalez consisted of Hicks, Gonzalez,
Duff, Boswell, Torok, Spitileri, Johnson (new player), Thompson, Capozzi, Witter, and Merritt.. They too had three scoreless innings through six and found themselves three runs behind.

So, going into the last inning , the score stood Matta 6, Zelazny 8, and Gonzalez 5. With two outs, Team Matta mounted a rally and managed to tie the score at 8. Call it what you will, when Team Zelazny came to bat, a rainbow appeared off to the left. 15 batters and 11 runs later the side was quietly retired. Team Gonzalez, with a chance to get back in it managed only one run, ending the game with the final score..Team Zelazny 19, Team Matta 8, and Team Gonzalez 6.

Key performances were:

Team Matta
Matta    4 for 4
Crowell    2 for 3
Herbie    3 for 3

Team Zelazny
Shirer   4 for 5 with a HR
Rutan   5 for 5 with a triple
Zelazny    5 for 5
King    3 for 5
Marino    3 for 4
LaPiccilo    Winning pitcher
