The top two league teams, The National's and host Duke's played a very heated game on Field B today. It was hard to tell how many times the game was tied or changed hands.

The visiting Nat's scored first on a Ron Pipin double and a Jerry DeJong single. The Duke's answered with 4 runs on singles by Herb O, Steve Hill and Pool player Bob Skidmore followed by doubles by Joe Peskie and Greg Denny, 4-1 Dukes after one.

Hits by Herb Muniz and Norm Learn added two runs for the Nat's as they held the Duke's scoreless to cut their lead to 4-3, they got one more on another DeJong hit with pool player Bob Dowdy aboard making the score 4-4 going into the bottom of the 3rd. The Duke's put up 5, on hits by Don Lamay, Herb O, Skidmore, Joe Peskie, Greg Denny and Brad Swenson. 9-4 Dukes after three.

The Nat's added 5 of their own to retie the game at 9, their key hits were 3 baggers by Tom Kniery and pool player Ed Gazarek. After a Charlie Sykes single, Ken Meyer hit a two run homer as the Duke's regained the lead 11-9 , after four.

RBI hits by Pepin, DeJong and Allan Miller plated the Na'ts three runs, to take a 12-11 lead while holding the Duke's scoreless. 12 -11 Nat's after Five.

The Nat's extended their lead to 13-11 on an RBI hit by Pat Lopiccolo to score Muniz. The Duke's posted 4 runs on Skyes, Ray Levesque, Steve Pinnick and Hal Ridley hits, to retake the lead 15-13, after six.

After a Steve Hicks single, a Ron Pipin homer tied the game at 15. The Duke's got a long sac fly from Larry Larson to score Herb O, before a great relay from Miller to Bob Hite, to Wayne Shearer cut Hill down at the plate. 16-15 Dukes after seven.

The 8th saw the Nat's get one run on hits by Miller and Gazarek. to tie the game at 16. Frank Jacobs started the Duke's 8th with a single, and four more hits added 4 runs. 20-16 Dukes after 8.

The Nat's Learn lead off the 9th with a single, but a strikeout and a double play ended the inning and the game, 16-20 Duke's. Final
