The Yankees played the Fighting Coconuts today and the game was well played on both sides. Sammy Lopez' Yankees won by score of 16 to 15.
Sammy had hurt his shoulder yesterday and was unable to play so he coached and umpired. We wish him good healing. He is scheduled for an operation on the shoulder in February.
Jose Rivera started out for the Yankees with a home run and later added another homer in the 5th inning. Batters hitting 3 for 4 for the Yankees were Jose Rivera, Freddie Gonzales and Tom Benson. Excellent defenders for the Yankees were Chris Constantine, Jose Rivera and Jimmy Laffoon.
The Coconuts were led in hitting by Gerry DeRidder who had a double, 2 triples and a single. Well done Gerry. Bob Zelazny didn't want to be left out so he hit 2 home runs and a single for a 3 for 3 performance. Also hitting very well for the Coconuts were Gary Burtner, Joe LeTourneau, B.J. Kallister and Tim Gallagher who each hit 3 times safely.
After the game there was prayer time at the mound giving thanks for safe playing and good health.
