 Opening Day 2022 

Comish Don Witmer started the day by welcoming all the new and old players and thanking the sponsors all for making this season possible for us.  Fred Gonzalas led us in prayer and the umpires said PLAY BALL. 

Visiting Flyers managed by Loren Fabian lined up in this order, Coffman, Vining, Brock, Rutan, Grabb, Laffoon, Boito, Andrews, Alf, Reed, Hudson, Castilleja and Newton. 

Home team Dukes managed by Steve Hill batted as follows.  Herb O., Hill, Vanderhyde, Larsen, Peske, Denny, Jacobs, Swenson, Levesque, Meyer, Skyes, Pinnick. Ridley and LaMay. 

In the first inning after two outs, singles from Brock and Rutan put runners on the bases.  Grabb and Laffoon drove in 2 runs for the Flyers.  Herb O. and Vanderhyde had singles but good defense by the Flyers held the Dukes scoreless.  Andrews led off the second inning with a single and scores on singles from Hudson and Castilleja.  Hits from Jacobs, Swenson and Meyer loaded the bases but the Dukes could not push a run across the plate.  After 2 the score was Flyers 3 Dukes O. 

Flyers did not score in the 3rd.  The bottom of the 3rd Pinnick singled and after two outs Herb O., and Hill drew walks, Vanderhyde doubled and Larsen’s 3 base hit pushed across 4 runs for the inning. 

Flyers went scoreless the next two innings and the Dukes added 4 runs in the 4th and one in the 5th.  After 5 innings Dukes 9 Flyers 3.  Flyers added 3 runs in the 6th and the Dukes added 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Highlight of the 6th was a home run by Jacobs and triple from Lavesque. 

Final score of the game was Dukes 20 Flyers 7. 

Flyers hitter: Grabb, 2 for 4, Laffoon 3 for 4, and Hudson 2 for 2 W. 

Dukes hitters: Vanderhyde 3 for 4 DBL, Denny 3 for 4, Jacobs 3 for 4 HR, Levesque 3 for 4 3B, Meyer 3 for 4.
