The prospect of playing ball today looked pretty slim if you paid any attention to the weather reports. Several of us were at the ballpark before 7:00 AM and there was a slight drizzle coming out of the sky. The weather report said it was raining but after about 5 minutes it quit drizzling. Things started looking up and clearing up. The weather reports were all over the place predicting rain. We ignored those reports and told everybody to come on and play ball. We had all four fields playing today.

The game on Field A between Elmer Black's National's and Mike O'Callaghan's Legion's started on time at 9:30 AM after wasting too much time on batting practice. However, it did pay off for the National's. They were the visiting team and came out hitting in the first inning like they were the league champs. The first five batters had strong hits and after one out, the next three batters continued with the hits to score five runs. The Legion tried to answer those hits but only scored four runs. The second inning started out like the first inning for the National's' and they scored five more runs. The Legion managed to score three runs in the second inning. The National's only scored three runs in the third inning while the Legion could only manage two runs. With the score pretty close, 13-9, the National's put on another hitting show in the fourth inning and scored 5 more runs. The Legion did not score any runs in the fourth or fifth innings. Final score was Nationals 20, Legion's 9. The game was ended after five innings due to field conditions and rain. The Weatherman finally got it right around 11:00 AM.

Hitters for the National's: Jerry Dejongh, Allen Miller, Bob Hite, Denny Shaffer and Herbie Muniz were 3/3, Steve Hicks, Bill Tesla, and Ron Pepin were 3/4, Norm Learn was 2/3.

Hitters for the Legion: Chris Lynch 3/3 with a Home Run, Bob Hammond and Jerry Witter 2/2, George Knox 2/3 with a Home Run, Don Witmer and Jim Hunter 2/3.
