A very good game was played between Mark Tutrani's Patriots and Spitaleri's Fighting Coconuts. Lauren Fabian umpired and we thank him.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning and by 3rd inning the Partriots led 3 to 2. Coconuts tied the game in the 5th but Patriots went wild in the 6th with the maximum 5 runs allowed by law. Anyway, the game was tied 8 to 8 in the 9th inning. Patriots were visiting team and did not score allowing the Coconuts a chance in the bottom. A few good hits and the winning run drove in by Rick Brock with a solid hit to left center.
Bob Dowdy pitched a good game for the Patriots while Pat LoPiccolo pitched for the Coconuts.
Leading hitters for Patriots were Ron Pepin, Don Scarbrough who were 3 for 4, and Allen Miller, Mark Tutrani, Tom Kniery and Poke Rodriquez who went 2 for 4.
Eddie Gazarek and Rick Brock were good batters for the Coconuts going 3 for 4 at the plate while Jose Rivera, Les Jacobson, and Ken Meyer hit 2 for 4.
It was Eddie Gazarek, Les Jacobson and Rick Brock who put together hits in the bottom of the 9th to win the game.
Both teams welcomed pool players who added to the friendly competition.
We are glad to see Cathy McDonald back to play. She had been out with arthritis issue. She played well and hit the ball hard.
Richard Kay had a key hit in the 5th inning to drive in some runs.
We thank Joe D'Herin for playing with us today and keeping the scorebook very well. Thanks Joe.
