A very good game was played between Mark Tutrani's Patriots and Spitaleri's Fighting Coconuts. Lauren Fabian umpired and we thank him.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning and by 3rd inning the Partriots led 3 to 2. Coconuts tied the game in the 5th but Patriots went wild in the 6th with the maximum 5 runs allowed by law. Anyway, the game was tied 8 to 8 in the 9th inning. Patriots were visiting team and did not score allowing the Coconuts a chance in the bottom. A few good hits and the winning run drove in by Rick Brock with a solid hit to left center.
Bob Dowdy pitched a good game for the Patriots while Pat LoPiccolo pitched for the Coconuts.

Leading hitters for Patriots were Ron Pepin, Don Scarbrough who were 3 for 4, and Allen Miller, Mark Tutrani, Tom Kniery and Poke Rodriquez who went 2 for 4.

Eddie Gazarek and Rick Brock were good batters for the Coconuts going 3 for 4 at the plate while Jose Rivera, Les Jacobson, and Ken Meyer hit 2 for 4.
It was Eddie Gazarek, Les Jacobson and Rick Brock who put together hits in the bottom of the 9th to win the game.

Both teams welcomed pool players who added to the friendly competition.

We are glad to see Cathy McDonald back to play. She had been out with arthritis issue. She played well and hit the ball hard.
Richard Kay had a key hit in the 5th inning to drive in some runs.
We thank Joe D'Herin for playing with us today and keeping the scorebook very well. Thanks Joe.

The Dukes bottom of the order came through in the 2nd with three, on hits by Jim Reed, John Gibson and Bob Reagan. Dukes 8-2 after two.

The Dukes pitching had a little wildness in the 3rd around timely Warriors hitting to tie the score at 8, the Dukes managed one in the bottom of the inning. 9-8 Dukes after three.

The American League travelled over to Solivita for a doubler-header. We combined members of the Purple and Gold Teams. The travel team wore purple shirts and gray pants.

We did not come to hit right away in game one, not scoring until the third inning, while Solivita scored five runs right away. After four innings of play the score was Solivita 11 and Winter Haven 4. We did mount an attack but at the end we lose 11-18.

Game wasn’t any better. We did look good up to the 5th inning with the score 18-14. However, Solivita came back winning 28-22. It just wasn’t our day.

Notable Hits. Dave Doerbaum, Bradley Scheirer, Bob Schultheis, and Jeff Ayers all hit home-runs.

We plan to return in February to redeem our self’s.

Tuesday, January 24th

A very good game was played today between the Yankees and Coconuts. Both teams needed pool players to complete the roster.

Sam Lopez, manager of the Yankees, did not have his usual cup of coffee with him this morning and we wondered how he could function but he did well.
Yankees were home team and scored 4 runs in the first inning while Coconuts did not score. After 6 compete innings the Coconuts led by only one run. This score made for a good, interesting and competitive game. Neither team could score in the 7th but in the 8th inning the Coconuts came up with 3 runs. The game ended with score of 13 for Coconuts to 9 for Yankees.

There were plenty of good hits from both teams.

Lauren Fabian umpired and did a great job. Thanks Lauren.

A prayer circle was formed after the game and Wayne Shearer led us in lifting up needs and giving thanks.

Tuesday, 1/17/23                       Yankees-visitors vs. Warriors-home

The Warriors countered with 4 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd with Steve Hicks getting a 2B.  The Yankees got 2 runs in the 3rd on Freddie Gonzalez’s 2 run HR.  It was Warriors 14-Yankees 10 after 4 innings, but pretty much all Warriors until the end.

Rob Reed hit a 3-run HR for the Yankees in the eighth.   Some fine defensive plays by Bill King SS, Denny Shaffer LF for the Warriors, and Rob Reed RC for the Yankees threw out “yours truly” at 1st base on a ball hit to the outfield.

American League, Tuesday 24 January 2023.

Today the American League played on field “B”. Manny Rios managed the Golden Knights, who were visitors, while Tommy Hamilton Managed the Purple Vikings, who were the home team.

The Golden Knights took a quick lead in the first. However,  the Vikings answered right back. The games was tight until the last inning. Vikings had a three-run lead in the top of the 9th. The Golden Knights could only muster up one run after a double play put the Knights behind the eight ball. Knights were unable to answer giving the win to the Purple Vikings 15-17. Pool players Mike and Matt played well.

Both team are now 2-2. Let’s see what happens on Friday.

The American League will be heading over to Solivita on Thursday to take on the Solivita 60+ team.

Friday, Jan 6th

Recap- The position of the Sun made for an interesting game for the Defensive players on Field C. If the ball was hit up in the air, there was a good chance that it would not be caught. That is why we call Field C the Hitters field. The game was a fight all the way up to the 9th inning, with the Patriots falling short by only 3 runs. A point worthy of mention was that in the 4th inning, the Patriots mistakenly used the same courtesy runner twice in the same inning, resulting in the runner being called out for out #3, ending the inning.

Recap results based upon each teams score sheets, as follows: Top Hitters for the Patriots were: Miller 3-5, Vining 3-5, Tutrani 4-5, Kniery 5-5, Stevens 3-5, O'Callaghan 4-4, Pep 2-3, Newton 3-3
Top Hitters for the Old Timers were: Boito 6-6, Testa 4-6, Guttenberg 4-6, Deridder 5-6, Zelasny 3-5, Dherin 5-5, Witmer 3-5, Pinnick 4-5, Harrell 3-5

Final score was: 25/22 for the Old Timers

A very good and competitive game was played by both teams. The Coconuts were leading by 7 in the top of 9th inning when Sam's Yankees came to bat. They scored 9 runs with excellent hitting to lead 21 to 19.  The Coconuts were home team and scored 3 to win. Final score was 22 to 21.

Jerry Witter pitched for the Yankees until he had to leave for an appointment in the 7th inning. B.J. Kallister took over as pitcher.
Excellent hitting for the Yankees were Chris Constantine, Ken Galinas, Freddie Gonzalez, Greg Denny, Bobby Ayers, B.J. Kallister and Sammy Lopez.
Wayne Shearer and Ralph Boswell had key hits also. Ralph is still recovering from gout and we are glad he was able to play.
Sam Lopez the manager did extra duty in getting the equipment out and then helping bring it all in.
The Yankees had 2 pool players Bob Hudson and Bobby Ayers.

The Coconuts were led in hitting by: Jose Rivera, Ed Gazarek, Les Jacobson, Rick Brock, Joe LeTourneau, Bobby Castilleja, Ken Meyers and Pat Lopiccolo. Richard Kay and Julian Puma had key hits to bring in runs. We were missing Cathy McDonald who was out with sprained muscle. We hope to see here on Tuesday.

Prayer was held on the pitching mound after the game and was well attended. We thanked Our Father for many blessings and lifted up Rick Brock's sister-in-law and Mark Tutrani's brother who are experiencing difficult health issues.

The season opened with the Yankees vs the Old Timers. It was a tight game until the bottom of the seventh when the Old Timers scored 5 runs and went on to win 18 to 10. The Yankees was led by Sammy Lopez with three hits. The Old Timers were led by Tom Capozzi with four hits.

The American League opened up the 2023 season sporting new uniforms, purple and gold shirts, and new charcoal gray hats.

Team purple led by JD Davis came out hitting scoring every inning until the 5th. Team Gold Led by “Sweet Lou” did everything they could to keep up. With HRs by Dave Doerbaum and Eddie Hurn the team was still behind until the bottom of the 9th when slugger Dave Doerbaum hit a 3-run homer to win in a walk-off 18-19 win for team Gold. What a game!

This Thursday the American League will travel to Solivita for a two-game match up.

We will only hit on Friday due to 60+ FHC Tournament.

After the game we had KFC thanks to the League and Tinsley Family of Companies.
