We had a wonderful opening ceremony emceed by the Comish, Don W. Most of the players and all of the teams were present. He welcomed all and wished all a good season. Freddy G. offered prayer for all, asking The Good LORD to keep everyone safe and to thank HIM for a blessed new year. All said and done the bell rang and the teams were off to a season of fun and games.
Field D hosted the Angels vs the JD's. Each team scored in the 1st inning with the Angels taking a lead of 4-2. The Angels, in innings 1 thru 5, pounded the yellow dot. By the 6th inning the JD's took over the pounding and led 8-4 shutting down the Angels and holding them to 4 zeros. But the Angels started flapping their wings and put up 4 runs to tie the game at 8-8.
Now it was game time and the JD's went for the win. They pounded out 4 runs taking a 12-8 lead after the 8th.
But the Angels still had some flap in their wings. Chico B led off with a single, Freddy G put some wings on the yellow dot and it took off over the right-center fielder for a homer. Two to go. Don W, Juan T, and Robert H got on with a pair of singles and a walk, Then Charlie G smacked a long single tying the score at 12-12. With a man on 3rd, CC comes up and delivers a hard rap to right, tough to handle; The Angels win!
The game was highlighted buy some spectacular catches led by Juan T in the outfield and some deep (over-the-fence) bombs by D Doerbaum. Great opening game.
Of course, we finished the day with the annual fried chicken buffet supplied by our sponsor PenGeo, Inc., our local KFC restaurant. George Tinsley himself delivered the feast. Way to go George!
