National League three team game on Jan 9th, 2015
The National League played a 3 team game today and a lot of confusion about who was hit, sit and field teams. Well the answer to that is that we are National League teams and have each picked a fitting name. Team 1 manager by Don LaMay will be known as the CUBS. Team 2 manager Elmer Black as the CAPS, Team 3 manager Larry Powell as the BRAVES, Team 4 manager Floyd Welton as the PIRATES and Team 5 manager Jeff Simon as the MARLINS. Schedule reflected that Pirates were first to bat in today’s game, Marlins second and Cubs last.
Pirate’s line up at the side of the ship (dugout) with Barnes, F. Miller, Guspyt, D Hill, Witter, Bess, Hawbaker, Welton, M. Mohan, Ducham, and Holly.
Marlins batted in this order, Simon, Marino, Grabb, Remington, Long, Zakrowski, Moots, Merritt, Seguin, L. Baker and Gibson.
Cubs put this order on the lineup card. Thompson, Taylor, Scarbrough, Evans, Stepp, B Mohan, Ridley, Michalski, G. Baker, Leggett, Yarletts and McPartlan.
Pirates and Marlins each started with 3 runs in the first. Cubs tallied 5. Marlins drew a blank in the second while Pirates pushed across 5 in there at bat and the Cubs 1. In the 3rd it was Marlins 2 Pirates 0 and Cubs 5. Score after 3 innings Pirates 8 – Marlins 6 – Cubs 11.
In the 4th everyone seem to take slow down. Marlins scored the only run of the inning. Bats come alive as Pirates tally 2 and Marlins 3 and Cubs 2 runs. The 6th inning was the big inning to make it a game for all three teams. Marlins 4, Pirates 5 and Cubs 0. Now going to the 7th inning and the score 14 for the Marlins and Pirates and 13 Cubs.
Bess leads off the 7th inning for the Pirates with a base rap, Welton singles as does Ducham, Holly, Barnes and F. Miller to drive in the fourth and final run. Marlins Zakrowski starts the final at bat for the Marlins with a triple, Moots singles him in. A fielder’s choice and base hits by Seguin and Gibson drive in the final run of the inning. Cubs started a rally after 2 were out in there last at bat on 4 straight base hits by Thompson, Taylor, Scarbrough and Evans to fall shore as the final score ended: Pirates 18, Marlins 17 and Cubs 15.
Notable fielding plays of the game. Moots on a shoe top catch in the second, Evans on a running catch in deep right center, and Michalski on a shoestring snow cone catch in the 7th.
Leading hitters for Pirates - Barnes 3 for 5, Miller 4 for 5, Hill 4 for 4 w/HR,
Braves – Simon 4 for 4, Grabb 3 for 3 w/walk, Zakrowski 3 for 4 w/ 2 three baggers.
