In the words of that great Baseball announcer, Michael Kay, “YANKEES WIN, THHHHEEEEE YYYAANNKKKEEEEES WIN! The Yankees played host to the Mets,(that other New York team) on a beautiful day for softball. The Mets held a 2 game lead over the Yankees, who have been hit with illness and injuries and holding a 7-game loosing streak. Needing 3 pool players to even the teams at 12 players, the Yankees came out with solid defense, not allowing a run in the top of the first. Then with solid hitting, they scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first, and never trailed after that. Every time the Mets got close, the Yankee bats answered the call and finished the game with a double play, to win 20-14.
Top hitters for the Mets were:
Bob Vandenberg (who stabbed a hot shot up the middle by myself) 4-4, Great game.
Jerry DeJongh, 4-5
Bob Zelazny, Rick Brock and George Knox, 3-5
For the Yankees:
Don Witmer 4-4, Great game!
Bobby Castilleja, Don Keller 4-5
Chris Constantine, Ron Fleming and Arvil Waddell 3-4
Thank you to Chris Constantine, Jim Hus and Mel Rathburn who joined us as Pool Players. And a big Happy Birthday to Mel on his big day today.
