Flyers were the visitors today on Field D facing the Braves. The Flyers were without service of  Manager Fabian today so Bob Hite took over the helm, and posted this line up: Essenmacher, JoAnn Westerman, Coffman, Vanderhyde, Kallister, Hunter, Benson, Hite, McColgan, McPartlan, Burns and Gibson.  Manager Strait of the Brave’s sent this lineup to the field and batted in this order:  Burtner, LaTourneau, Reed, Levesque, Knox, Remington, Purcell, Gallagher, LoPiccolo, LaMay, Strait, Poke, and L. Baker. 

Essenmacher and Westerman started the first with singles, an infield out and a triple off the bat of Vanderhyde driving in two runs.  A Single from Hunter produced the 3rd run of the inning.  Burtner and LeTourneau led off the first for the Braves and Reed singled them home.  Leverque followed with a blast to the fence in center for a home run.  Score after one was Flyer’s 3 Brave’s 4.

Second both teams posted “0”.  In the third for the Flyer’s Essenmacher, Coffman, Vanderhyde, Hunter, singled and a double from Benson and triple off the bat of Hite brought in the max 5 runs for the inning.  Brave’s had 5 straight singles from Burtner, LaTourneau, Reed, Levesque, and Knox to tally 4 runs.

Jim McPartlan led off the fourth with a single, Burns, Gibson, Essenmacher followed with base hits plating two runs.  Coffman, Vanderhyde, and Kallister had singles posting 5 more runs for the Flyer’s.  Brave’s added one run in the bottom of the inning.  After four innings Flyer’s 13 Braves 9.

In the fifth and sixth innings the Flyer’s tired out and posted zeros, as Leverque and Purcell made great catches in the outfield.  Brave’s added two runs again by the top of their lineup. 

In the seventh the Flyer’s posted another 5 run inning while the Brave’s added 3. The score after 7 was Flyer’s 18 Brave’s 14.  Both teams added a run in the eighth.

Flyer’s took a commanding lead in the top of the ninth with all 12 players having batted and posting 7 runs to put them up 26 to 15.  Manager Strait led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, then Baker and Burtner singled, LeTourneau doubled, Reed, Knox and Remington singled, Purcell doubled and Gallagher tripled, bringing the 8th run of the inning.  LoPiccolo now at the plate and hits a liner in the hole between 3rd and short and Venderhyde grabs it for the final out of the game.  Final score Flyer’s 26 Brave’s 23.

Flyer’s Hitters:  Essenmacher, Hunter 5 for 5, Coffman 4 for 5, Vanderhyde 4 for 5 w/ 3b, Kallister, Benson, Burns 3 for 5, and Hite 3 for 5 w/3b.

Brave’s Hitters:  Burtner, Reed, 5 for 5, LeTourneau and Purcell both 4 for 5 w/dbls, Levesque 3 for 5 with Home Run, and Strait 3 for 4.
