The show down between Legion Post 8 and the Dukes was played on Field E . The last time these two teams squared off was opening day, when the Legion scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to sneek past the Dukes for a one run victory. Everyone on both teams expected the same type of game today .
The Legion put up 4 runs in the top of the 1st , as the 1st four batters had hits followed by a Jim Laffon walk and a Sac fly by Larry Wells . The Dukes looked like they were going to answer , scoring two runs and they had two runners on , but a double play ended the inning. After one, Legion 4 Dukes 2
The Legion after one out in the top of the second, had 7 straight hits, plating 5 more runs . The Dukes managed just one run as the Legion defense turned another double play. After two 9-3 Legion .
The Dukes held the Legion scoreless in the 3rd while posting 4 runs , to get back into the game. End of three saw the game 9 - 7 Legion
The Legion scored four in the 4th and five in the 5th, while Larry wells held the Dukes to single runs in each inning . After five saw the score 18- 9 Legion .
The Dukes never really got back into the game as the Legion out scored them 13 - 9 over the last 4 innings to make the final 31- 18 Legion .
Offense stars > Legion , Alf Gibons , 6-6 hr , Mike O'Callaghan and Ralph Boswell 5-6 . Dukes , Wayne Vorhes 5-5 . Steve Hill and Bob Zelazny 4-5 .
Defense stars > Jim Lafoon and Legion infield as they turned 3 double plays today. Nice job guys .
