Winter Haven Senior Softball

A three-team game was played today on Field B as repair work was being performed on Field A.  The DeRidder’s were the Hit team hitting first and bat as follows:  Gazarek, Rutan, DeRidder, Pinnick, Russ King, Grabb, Chrest, McNally, Pursell, Wheeler, Taylor, Bowley, Rich King, and Hartley.  The Flyers were The Sit team and warmed the bench in the middle of the first inning.  Joann Westermann, Coffman, Vanderhyde, Essenmacher, Kallister, Benson, Hunter, Hite, Gisele Sequin, McColgan, McPartlan, Gibson,and  Fabian.  The Braves were the Field team and took to the dirt and grass:  Newton, Knox, Reed, McLellan, Levesque, Burtner, LeTourneau, Polk, LoPiccolo, LaMay, Remington, Gelesky and Shaffer. 

Gazarek and Rutan had singles to start the game for the DeRidders, after a couple of long fly outs R. King and Grabb had base hits producing a run. The Flyer’s Coffman, Vanderhyde, and Essenmacher had base raps, after an out Benson and Hunter has singles and 3 runs batted in.  Brave’s Newton led off the bottom half of the first with a two-base rap to deep left center and McLellan singled him home for the run a Braves.  

The DeRidders posted zero’s over the next 3 innings.  The Flyers tallied a run in the second with singles from Sequin and McPartlan with Jim getting the RBI.  Braves had doubles from Burtner and LeTourneau, then singles off the bats of Poke, LoPiccolo, LaMay, Remington, Shaffer and Newton driving in the 5th run of the inning.  After 2 innings DeRidders 1 Flyers 4 and Braves 6.   

JoAnn started the Flyers in the third with liner to center, Coffman singled Vanderhyde reach base, Essenmacher singled and Bob Hite doubled in the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.  Braves added 2 in the last half of third.  The DeRidders ran up 3 runs in the 5th on singles from Russ King, Grabb, Chrest, McNally and Pursell.  After 5 innings score was DeRidder’s 4 Flyers 10 Braves 12. 

Sixth inning had the Flyers running up and down the base for another 5 run inning. Seventh had the Flyers adding 3 and the Braves pushing in 2 and the final score was Flyers 18 – Braves 14 – DeRidders 4 

The DeRidder team were giving their all with Rutan and Russ King making gallant tries on ball hit in their direction.  Both hit the ground rolling and got up with help and we did not have to get equipment from the construction onFfield A.  Great effort guys. 

More notables:  LoPiccolo and Braves Defense for holding the DeRidder team to 4 runs.   

Hitting 

DeRidders – Gazarek 4 for 4, R. King, Grabb and Pursell all 2 for 2  

Flyers Benson led the team going 4 for 4, most all the rest were 2 for 3 and everyone had at lead one hit. 

Braves – Knox and McLellan 3 for 4, LaMay and Remington 3 for 3 and everyone had a hit.
