The American Legion Post 8 70 year old softball team from Winter Haven won the Florida Half Century State Championship in Sanford at the Boombah Sports Complex on Dec. 7-8, 2019. They started at the bottom of their division in January, 2019 and finished at the top of their division in December, 2019. In addition to being the State Champs, they were selected as the FLORIDA HALF CENTURY 70'S TEAM OF THE YEAR 2019. What a great accomplishment. When you see these guys in the picture below, give them a high five.
The Players are: Bobby Skidmore, Manager, Mike O'Callaghan, Post Commander American Legion Post 8, Fred Dampier, Angel Farinas,, Wally Granger, Steve Hill, George Knox, Jimmy Laffoon, Willie Morton, Herbie "O", Robert Spitaleri and Bob Vandenberg.
