With a limited crew , due to the ISSA tournament in Tampa - The American League boys took the field , to a sunny field at Diamond Plex.
Team Davis vs. Team Quinones vs Team Keller .

The weather , although sunny , was "Cold" at the outset , but the bats were anything but -- each team scored the maximum 5 runs in the opening stanza, and almost completed the scenario , in the second inning .  After 2 innings the score was Team Davis 10 , Team Quinones 10 , Team Keller 7.   Both the weather and the bats turned "Milder" in the middle innings ( innings 3-5 ) , with the collective production of runs ( all 3 teams ) totaling only 8 runs.  With the weather turning noticeably "Hotter" toward the end of the day , Team Quinones turned up the thermostat , with 5 runs in the sixth inning , to pull away.   The final score was, Team Quinones 21, Team Davis 12, Team Keller 10.

Hitting leaders for each team.

Capozzi's Cobras vs Fabian's Flyers. 2 teams that have been struggling. The Cobras are struggling no more as they beat the Flyers 22-6 and we're up 17-1 after 7 innings. While the Flyers were missing several key players they only mustered 11 hits in 9 innings against 41 hits in 8 innings of the Cobras.

Of the Flyers 11 hits, Coffman had 3 and Jimmy McPartlin had 2. Others were fortunate to have one. Everyone for the Cobras had at least 2. Many had up to 6 hits. This team is a team to be reckoned with.

Now I wish to try to turn a negative (Fabian's Flyers big loss) into a positive. In spite of the lopsided score, there was not any arguments and most important not a disagreement at 2nd base on the veer off rule. That is because Capozzi and Fabian agreed before the game that the hitting team have a field umpire at all times. And it worked. NO BASE COACHES DOING THE UMPIRING.

See y'all Tuesday. I hope we have a full team once again.

Field C 1/24

The Duke's as visitors were playing the home team Braves on Field C today.  Partly cloudy day with the temp in the mid 60 at game time. Steve Hill posted his lineup as follows:  Roy leading off, Skidmore, Hill, Zalazny, Vorhes, Morton, Hipel, Johnson, Dave Hartley, Spellman, Hudson, Andrews, and Thompson.  The Braves score sheet had Burtner batting first, LeTourneau, Reed, Leverque, Burns, Newton, Knox, Galagher, Remington, Lopiccolo, LaMay, Boito, and Strait.

In the first inning for the Dukes, singles from Skidmore, Hill, Zelazny, Vorhes, Morton, and Hipel produced three runs for the visitors.  Thompson and defense put the Braves down 1 2 3. The second had LoPiccolo and the Braves defense setting the Dukes down without a score. Braves Leverque singled, followed by a double off the bat of Burns.  Then singles from Knox, Galagher, Remington, LoPiccolo and LaMay tallied 3 runs to tie the game three all.

Third inning had Roy leading off with a base hit and Hill followed with another single, then Zelazny hit one deep to the fence in right center for a home run and 3 runs for the inning.  Burtner, LeTourneau, and Reed started the Braves half of the inning with singles, then Leverque drove a deep fly to right field for a sac fly posting a run for the Braves. Burns, Newton and Knox singled for a total of four runs in the inning.  After 3 Braves up 7 to 6.

Johnson and Hartley started the 4th with singles, Spellman then drove a line drive to the fence scoring two runs but his pinch runner had to stop at first.  Andrews, Thompson and Roy all had base raps and totaled 5 runs for the inning. Braves added two in the bottom of the inning.  Dukes 12 Braves 9.

In the fifth inning Dukes added a run and Braves were held scoreless. Both teams posted zeros in the sixth.  Dukes added 4 runs in the seventh and 3 in the eighth, while the Braves posted 3 in the seventh and 2 in the eighth. After eight innings the score was Dukes 19 Braves 14.  Braves LoPiccolo and defense held the Dukes to a single by Vorhes in the ninth. Hey guys we got a chance in the bottom of the ninth, 5 to tie 6 to win was the words on the bench.  After an out LeTourneau singles to right, then an infield out, but Leverque has another single and Burns drives a deep fly to right for the last out of the inning. Final Dukes 19 Braves 14.

Great game guys with 5 runs being posted once in the game.

Best fielding play of the game was a running shoestring catch in center field by Reed of the Braves.

Leading hitters Dukes:  Roy 4 for 5, Zalazny 3 for 5 HR, Vorhes and Morton both 4 for 5, Hipel and Johnson both 3 for 5, Spellman 3 for 4.  Andrews and Thompson both 2 for 4.

Fwd: January 24, Field D

History was made when this year's two rookie managers, Jerry De Ridders of the DeRailers and Mike O'Callaghan manning the Post 8 Legion.

The Derailers jumped off to a roaring start, scoring 11 times to the Legion's 4, after 2 and a half innings.  Legion came to life scoring 7 times in the bottom half of the 3rd to tie at 11 each.  The slow start by the Legion was probably due to the players accepting Mgr. Mike's gusty move by sitting their star player, after his 0 for 5 performance in the previous game.

From the 3rd on the Legion scored in each inning totalling 17 runs to the DeRailers 8.  Final score 28 to 19.

Fabian's Flyers took on O'Callahan's Legion and it became obvious the Flyers are not a cold weather team. They were down 9-0 after 2 1\2 and 16-2 after 5 and never did make a run till the 8th inning when they put up 3 to make the final 26-8 in favor of the Legion. In spite of the lopsided score and cold weather it was a fun game with no arguments and a very friendly atmosphere. Let's keep it that way win, lose or draw. We don't know the standings to date as we don't know how the 3 team games are going to be tallied.

Legion hitters. Gibbons 4-5. Constantine 4-5. O'Callahan 2-5. Boswell 5-5. Laffoon 4-5. Miller 2-5. Castillega 3-5. Zakrowski 5-5. Travis 3-5. Torok 4-5. Elmer Black - fantastic umpire and scorekeeper.

Flyers hitters. Vanderhyde 2-4. Gallagher 2-4. Kallister 3-4. Gutenberger 3-3. Fabian 3-3.

See y'all Friday.
