Before we get into what happened at the old ball park today, there is something more important to report besides playing softball. Our good friend and manager of the Yankees, Sammy Lopez, is scheduled for shoulder surgery in the coming days. Sammy, our thoughts and prayers are with you for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery so that you can get back to that old ball park.
If any team was going to play the Yankees today, today was the day, as their starting pitcher, Larry Wells, was absent. After the 1st inning, the score became one-sided. The Nats scored 18 runs in the next 4 innings to take a commanding 22-10 lead. The Nats added 5 more in the 7th and a flip flop ended with the final score of 28-15 Nats. Professional defensive plays by Constantine from the hardest hit liner that I ever saw from the bat of Jerry DeJongh. I am sure it left a mark on Chris' hand, but he would never admit it. Also 2 hard hit line drives on back to back pitches were caught by Nats 3rd base man, Tom Kniery. Good catches, gentlemen.
