First we send our deepest sympathy to Tom and Jeri Kniery, who had to make an unscheduled trip up North, due to the death of their grandson. Tom is our 3rd baseman and an outstanding hitter.
Just when you think you have seen it all, something new crops up at the old ball park. Today was about pitching and not hitting, by by Pat LoPiccolo for the Nats and Jerry Witter of the Legion. The Legion put up 8 ZEROES, that's right 8 and scored their only 3 runs in the 6th. The Nats on the other side did not do much better as they scored 2 in the 1st on a HR by Steve Hicks. The 2nd saw the Nats score 3 to take a 5-0 lead. This score remained until the Legion scored 3 in the 6th.
The Nats added 2 in the 7th and low and behold, that's all she wrote. Each team had 17 hits and the outstanding defensive play was a deep fly ball by the Nats to left center caught by Chris Lynch who ran half way across Polk County to track it down. Great catch, Chris. Not much to report on the hitters side. The Legion had 3 hits each by Jim Hunter, Chris Lynch and Bob Vandenberg. The Nats, apart from Hicks' HR, Denny Schaffer, Greg Walsko and Norman Learn all had 3 hits each. A great game to be part of. Final score Nats 7, Legion 3.
