The Dukes Hosted the Yankees today on the sun field C , which accounted for the high scoring game.
The Yankees took the early lead 3-1, on home runs by Chris Constantine and Jose Rivera and singles by Fred Gonzales, Fred Stevens and Ken Gelinas.The Dukes run came on hits by George Vanderhyde and Joe Peski . 3-1 Yankees after one.
The Dukes tied the game at three in the 2nd on a Frank Jacobs triple, Larry Larson's double and hits by Ray Levesque and Ken Meyer.
Both teams posted four in the 3rd. The Yankees on hits by pool players Willie Morton and Bobbie Ayers, and hits by Constantine, Gonzales and another Rivera homer. While the Duke's Hal Ridley, Herb Oesterreich, Peski , Vanderhyde had singles around a Steve Hill home run. Game 7-7 after three.
The Yankees took the lead by two in the 4th on hits by Larry Wells, Jerry Remington and Gerry Ryan, 9-7. The Dukes added 4 runs on Larson, Levesque , Meyer and Steve Pinnick hits. Dukes 11-9 after four.
The Yankees opened the 5th with 3 runs on five hits, taking a 12-11 lead. The Dukes got one to retie the game at 12 after Five.
The Yankees posted five runs in the top of the 6th and the Dukes answer with 5 of their own in the bottom, after a Levesque homer. 17 all after six.
The Yankees bats cooled, going scoreless in the 7th and 8th, the Duke's stayed hot scoring 7 runs. 23-17 Dukes going to the ninth.
The Yankees were not giving up in the 9th. After two out and none on Cindy Forrest started a rally, the Yankees went on to score 3 runs, before Herbie O made a nice running catch off the bat of Gonzales to end the game 23-20 Dukes.
