The Braves led off the
1st inning scoring with 2 runs on a triple by Joe Peskie. The Dukes answered
with Steve Hill's 3 run homer. Score 3-2 Dukes after one.
After the Dukes plated
one on Bill Wolfe's 3 bagger in the 2nd they extended their lead 4-2. The
Braves posted 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd on 4 singles to tie the score
at 4. The Dukes posted 3 runs after 2 outs to retake the lead 7-4 in the bottom
of the inning, the key hits were provided by Hill and Bob Zelazny on back to
back hits. Score 7-4 Dukes after 3.
The Braves made it
close, adding 2 in the 5th on hits by Joe Letourneau, Leo Kreiger and Don Torok,
7-6 Dukes. The Dukes posted 2 of their own on singles by new player Alf Gibbons,
Jerry Remington and Ken Gelinas. Dukes 9-6 after 4.
Defense took over the
next few innings, the Braves added single runs in the 5th and 6 innings while
the Dukes got one run . End of the 7th saw the Dukes holding on to a 7 to 10
lead.
The Braves bats came
alive in the 8th, putting up a 4 spot, the power provided on Peskie's 3 run
right HR blast, to take a one run lead 11-10. The Dukes tied the game in the
bottom of the inning. Score 11-11 going to the 9th.
The Braves added
4 more runs in the top of the 9th, the key hit was Torok's 2 run triple to the
right field corner. The Dukes bats remained quiet and did not score. Final
score Braves 15 Dukes 11.
