On the first pitch of the game Freddy Gonzales put the Warriors ahead 1-0 on a drive to deep left field . The Dukes posted a run after Ray Roys lead off triple on his way to a 4 for 4 day . 1-1 after one .
The Warriors just could not get untracked , not scoring against the Dukes good pitching by Jerry Witter and their strong defense the next 5 innings . Meanwhile the Dukes bats were hot posting 18 runs through 6 innings . Their big hits were home runs by Ray Roy and Steve Hill plus 3 baggers by Bill Wolfe and Willie Morton .
The Warriors got hot in the 7th , scoring 5 runs to trim the Dukes lead to 18-6 . Key hitters were Art Zakrowski ,Don Hawbaker and a long triple by Bob Vandenberg . The Dukes answered with 4 in the bottom of the inning .
The Warriors were not going quietly . adding 6 runs the 8th while holding the Dukes scoreless . The Warriors big hits were provided on doubles by Don Scarbrough and Jeff Simon , another triple by Vandenberg and a home run by Jim Vining . 22-12 Dukes at 8 .
After the Dukes Willie Morton marched in from the left field bullpen to pitch the 9th , the Warriors managed only one more run in the inning . FINAL SCORE 22-13 Dukes .
