The Yankees rolled into Joker Marchant Stadium today to take on the Tigers - - but the REAL , Yankee / Tiger game was being played on the softball ⚾️fields at Diamondplex , Winter Haven. Manager / Infielder , Al Guzzo , was sidelined with a recent eye 👁 surgery but was exhorting his Yankee teammates to “win one for the Gipper”. GM , Les Jacobson , corrected him, saying it was for the “Gimper” ... either way , the pre-game speech seemed to work.
The pinstripers, put up 9 runs in the first two innings , while the Tiger batters could muster only 3 . Alumbaugh-Guzman-Jacobson-Hurn-Toro were lighting up the scoreboard. The bombshell was so intense , the Tiger Bench was overheard with chants of , “Tora-Tora-Tora” !!!! , as Juan Toro , put the finishing touches on a five run 4th inning, to increase the lead to 14-4 . Seven more Yankee runs in the next three stanzas , left the score at 22-5 after the 7th inning .
Glen LePinnet , was doing his best to limit the damage with 4 hits , for the Tigers 🐯, including a massive blast over the left-center field “French” 🇫🇷, ( I mean Fence ! ). Don Keller & Joe D’Herin chipped in 3 hits apiece for the Tigers . Larry Book pitched a brilliant game for the Yankees . Final score :
Yankees 22 , Tigers 7 .
Yankee Bombers :
Guzman-Jacobson-Toro 5 hits apiece
Alumbaugh-Hurn 4 hits apiece
Gutenberger 3 hits
Tiger Attacks :
LePinnet 4 hits
Keller-D’Herin 3 hits apiece
Defensive gems : Jacobsen-Gutenberger-Toro - Stier -
Well-wishes to Tim Thiry, who incurred a Calf-pull .. ( speedy recovery ) .
