How about an extra inning? Field C

Da Bad Boyz

Enough players made it out today to put up three teams on field C.  That despite the tournament this weekend which usually results in a low turnout on Friday as some players choose to take it easy and save their best stuff for the weekend.   We decided (about halfway through) that we would like to play an extra inning this morning so we played 8 innings.  Why not 9 you ask?  I couldn’t say … it was just 8.

The three teams lined up behind the pitching of George Radlein (Hit with 12 players), Jerry Witter/Larry Wells (Sit with 11 players) and Pat Lopiccolo (Field with 12 players).

The first got off to a great start as the Hit team led off posting a 5 spot highlighted by a home-run turned triple as Steve Hill burned the right center-fielder but was only able to gamely hobble around to third. The Sit team went down in order.  Fred Dampier then led the Field team on a 5 run romp to tie the game.

In the second nobody was able to score and the third started out just as poorly with zero for the Hitters but the Sitters squeezed out 2 runs mainly due to Rob Reagan’s triple and Freddy Gonzalez’s homer. The fielding team then went down in order.

The score after 3 stood at a nice symmetrical 5-2-5.

Zeros were again posted by the Hit and Sit squads in the fourth but the Fielders came back to score 4 and take the lead sparked by a Larry Nelson homer.

The Hitters posted their 4th consecutive zero while the bottom of the order for the Sitters and Fielders came through with each posting a pair.

In the sixth the Hit team rebounded scoring 6 to tie, bringing 10 batters to the plate. Not to be outdone the Sitters posted 5 runs led by a Russ King homer and bringing all 11 batters up to bat.  The fielding team went down in order.

After 6 innings we were 11-9-11;  Again nice and symmetrical.

The Hitters and Sitters came into the 7th feeling smug but again both posted zeros  but the Fielders posted 3 runs with the help of a  nice Denny Schaffer home run.

The only action in the final and unlimited frame came from the Sitters when Steve Hill smacked a homer scoring Kirk Coffman ahead of him.

Leaving us with the final 13-9-14.  Good job of setting the teams if you ask me (of course me and JD and Big Russ did the selections today in the Commish’s absence)

Excellent defense was turned in by Tom Hamilton playing shortstop for the Hitters.  Tom threw out two runners at the plate by relaying the throws to Tom Snider at home for the outs.  They say it’s hard to beat a Tom-Tom.

Leading the Offense:
Hit Squad
Al Andrews 3 for 4
Tom Hamilton 3 for 4  2 doubles
Kirk Coffman 4 for 4
Bobby Downs 3 for 4
Steve Hill 3 for 4 triple, home run
George Radlein  3 for 3 double

Sit Squad
Fred Gonzalez 4 for 4 triple, home run
Bob Hite 3 for 4

Field Squad
                Ed Kline  2 for 3
Larry Nelson 3 for 3 double, triple, home run
