A hearty welcome to more of our returning snowbirds who showed up to play today. Tom Hamilton, Jack Benson and Don Held were with us on this beautiful Friday morning. Also, welcome back to Roger Edwards after being gone for six weeks while he recovered from surgery. The game on Field B started out like gangbusters for Team Witter. Seven of the first eight batters got a hit while scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Team Matta was held scoreless. Team Witter started the second inning with the first two batters making outs. Then, the offense took off again and scored five more runs. Team Matta was held scoreless in the second inning also. But, as was expected out of Team Matta, they began scoring runs and playing outstanding defense in the third inning. They held Team Witter to two runs in the third inning and then held Team Witter scoreless for four innings while racking up eleven runs. Beginning the ninth inning, the score was Team Witter 14 and Team Matta 11. Team Witter managed to get one run in the top of the ninth so Team Matta needed four runs for a tie and five runs for a win. Jimmy Laffoon started the rally for team Matta and before you knew it, the bases were loaded with two outs and the wining run was on second base. However, Team Witter managed to get the third out before the Team Matta scored the winning run. A very competitive game was played with the final score being Team Witter 15 and Team Matta 14.
Leading Hitters for Team Witter were Tom Hamilton, 4/5, Freddie Dampier, Roger Edwards and J.D. Davis were 3/4.
Leading Hitters for Team Matta were Nick Matta 3/3, Jimmy Laffoon, Don Keller and Don Held were 4/5.
