Where's Juan? |
We tried out a new sign up sheet system today and I think it made it a lot easier to assign players to teams, so that's a good thing. Three teams contested on Field B and two on Field C.
On Field B things got off to a slow start with the Hitting Team lead batters of Gonzalez, Rivera and Lafoon going down in order. But then the Sitting Team scored their 5 bringing 9 batters to the plate in the inning. Then to top things off the Fielding Team plated the maximum 5 runs aided by a Jack Benson round tripper past the right fielder.
In the second inning the Hitting Team got on the board with 2 runs followed by a pair from the Middles squad and a single run for the bottom third.
In the third inning the Hitting Team bats finally came alive to score 5 runs on 8 consecutive singles. The Sit Team was limited to one run while the Fielding Team showed their speed on the bases with doubles by Constantine and Toro to rack up 4 runs in the last of the thrid.
After three the score was 7-8-10.
In the fourth everyone went scoreless.
In the fifth Freddy Gonzalez tripled with two out and was scored on Jose Rivera's single but that was all they could do. The Sit Team put up a zero while the Fielding team plated 2 runs following a Juan Toro lead-off double.
The Sit Squad managed a couple of runs in 6th off a pair of singles and a John Byrd double. The Sit team again went down with a goosegg as did the Fielding Team.
Going into the last inning we stood at 10-8-12
In the seventh the Sitting Team scored a pair to tie the game followed by three for the Sitting Boys off a Larry Nelson homer which left things at 12-11-12. All the Fielding Team had to do was score one run to record the win. A lead-off fly out was followed by a Tom Hamilton single, a Juan Toro double (again) and an intentional walk to Frank Jacobs. Bob Hite came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded. Of course he delivered a single to score the winning run.
Final Score 12-11-13 it doesn't get much better than that.I guess the new sign-in system worked for today anyway.
Outstanding Fielding plays were turned in by Al Andrews snagging a deep fly ball behind the right fielder, an outstanding flat out running catch in center by Juan Toro and a nice throw by Freddy Gonzalez to get the runner at third.
Outstanding Batters included:
Freddy Gonzalez 3 for 4 and a triple
Jose Rivera 3 for 4
Bob Zelazny and JD Davis 3 for 3
Russ King and Al Andrews 3 for 4
Larry Nelson 4 for 4 and a home run
Tom Hamilton 3 for 4
Juan Toro 3 for 4 and two doubles
Bob Hite 3 for 3 and a sac fly
Welcome back to Al Andrews and the rest of you returning snow birds.
A Special Thanks goes out to Joe D'Herin for umpiring again today. Thanks Joe
