Clear Blue Skies (Tuesday 10/16)

Don lines one up

Another beautiful early fall day and the turnout showed it. Three teams for 'B' field and a mere two on 'C'. A few more players and we'll be using 3 fields.

Field B

The hitting team on field 'B', pitched by Larry Wells,  got off to a slow start with zero runs and only two batters reaching base on a pair of hits.  The sitting team, Jerry Witter pitching, managed 2 runs after two outs with a string of hits and some good base running.  The fielding team with Walt Leggett and Ray Mills sharing the pitching duties, sent 8 batters to the plate and scored four runs starting with a lead-off inside-the-park homer by Bob Hite.

In the second the hitting team again went scoreless and the sitting team managed only one run.  The fielding team on the other hand scored 3 runs after a lead-off walk, and a single followed by a bases clearing triple by Bob Hite.  Bob was then scored on a Dick Mahon double.

The third inning saw the hitting team finally come to life and make up for lost ground.  They scored seven to tie the game, led by Bob Zelazny's bases loaded inside-the-park round tripper. The sitting team again scored a single run followed by a null frame for the fielding 11 (or12).

After 3 we stood at 7-4-7 ...

In the fourth the hitting team went 3 up 3 down followed by the sitting and fielding teams each posting a pair.

Larry Wells' hitting squad again rallied in the fifth lead by another homer off Bob Zelazny's bat.  This time it was a three run shot followed by 2 more runs to post the maximun 5 for the inning. The sitting and fielding teams failed to score.

The sixth was a repeat of the fifth almost with Bob Zelazny hitting a ball to the fence for his third homer of the day and leading his team to another 5 run inning. Once again the sit and field team went scoreless.

After 6 it was 17-6-9

In the final and unlimited frame the hit team went 3 up and 3 down thanks to a nice double play.  The sit team started with a Chris Constantine double but Chris scored the only run for them that inning. The fielding team went scoreless.

Final Score: 17-7-9
