Today's game started
out as a high scoring one. Duke's started by scoring 3 runs in the first
inning, and Warriors answered back by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the
first. After four innings The Duke's had scored 13 runs, Warriors kept up by
scoring 18 runs. After 8 innings Duke's took the lead by adding 11 runs while
holding the Warriors 2 runs. The score going into the ninth inning was Duke's
27, Warriors 20.
Warriors shut the
Duke's down in the top of the ninth with no runs. Warriors made a big effort to
come from behind by scoring 5 runs, had tying runs on base when Duke's Team
Manager Steve Hill changed pitchers. Willie Morton, in relief of Jerry
Witter set up a perfect double play ground ball to save the game. Final score
was Duke's 27-Warriors 25.Outstanding hitters for Duke's: Ray Roy 4-5, two home runs and one double,
