Flyers vs Dukes
The first place Flyers
came out fast, scoring 4 runs on hits by Larry Wells, Ralph Boswell, Mark
Gallagher, Ray Levesque, Travis Fryzowicz, Tom Benson and a Larry Grabb doubl .
The Dukes answered with a Ray Roy leadoff home run and hits by Bob Skidmore,
Steve Hill, Bob Zelazny, Justin Mears, Willie Morton and Dave Hartley to score
five runs. Dukes 5-4 after one.
After a scoreless 2nd,
the Flyer's took the lead 6-5 in the 3rd on Boswell's two run homer following
Loren Fabian's first of his three hits on the day. Roy's 3 bagger and a Hill
double tied the score at six.
With one out Grabb's
single and Benson double plated one for the Flyers retaking the lead 7-6.
The Dukes hit their stride in the bottom of the 5th scoring five runs on 7
straight hits to take a 11 -7 lead, after five.
The 5th and 6th inning
were scoreless. In the 7th, hits by Grabb and Benson plated one for the Flyers,
while hits by Alf Gibbons, Jerry Witter and Jerry Remington added one for the
Dukes. 12-8 after seven.
The Dukes defense held
the Flyers scoreless in the 8th & 9th innings, while the Dukes added 5 more
in the bottom of 8th Final score 17-8 Dukes.
