Post 8 took an early 2
run lead on hits by Steve Pinnick, Mike O'Callaghan and Russ King in the top of
the 1st. The Dukes came out firing with 7 straight hits by, Ray Roy, Bob
Skidmore, Steve Hill, Justin Mears, Willie Morton, Dave Hartley and Danny Parker
to a 5 spot, with no outs. 5-2 Dukes after one.
The Dukes added one it
the 2nd on hits by Alf Gibbons, Jerry Remington and Dale Johnson, extending
their lead to 6-2.
After a quite 3rd,
Post 8 put up two in the 4th on hits by O'Callaghan, Ted
Anderson and a triple by Sam Lopez . 6-4 Dukes after four.
Hits by Remington and
Johnson extended the Dukes lead to 7-4 after five.
Post 8 got hot in the
6th posting 5 runs to take a 9-7 lead on key hits from Dan Walton, Anderson, a
Poke Rodriguez sac fly followed by an Elmer Black hit. 9-7 Post 8 after six.
The Dukes added one in
the 7th and Post 8 got one more in the 8th as both teams bats cooled. Score
10-8 Post 8 going to the 9th.
Post 8 did not score
in the top of the 9th, thanks to a fine snow cone catch by Morton off a Lopez
right field drive. The Dukes after back to back nice 5-3 plays at 3rd by Lopez,
got a two out single by Skidmore followed by a 2 run homer by Hill to tie the
game at 10. After hits by Mears and Morton it looked like the Dukes were going
to clinch the win. But an intentional walk to Hartley loaded the bases bringing
up pool player Parker, who had to leave early for the 3rd out, forcing extra
innings. 10-10 after nine.
With a runner at 2nd
followed by a Rodriguez single put Post 8 back on top 11-10. A hit by Remington
plated the Dukes runner to retie the game at 11 after ten.
Post 8's bottom of the
order came through in the 11th, driving in 2 runs on key hits by Cathy McDonald
and Lee Baker, to take a 13 -11 lead. Hits Dean Schapeler, John Merritt
and Jerry Witter tied the game at 13. With runners on 1st and 2nd,
leadoff hitter Roy hit a dribbler that got by everyone, scoring pinch runner
Alf Gibbons from 2nd to with the winning run. FINAL score 14-13 Dukes 11
innings.
