RECAP FOR THE WEEK OF 9/27 - 10/1

Tuesday, September 27th

While the American league was battling Kissimmee on Field D the National League played a 3 team game on C. The managers were Spitaleri, Wally and Zelazny in that order for teams 1 thru 3. Team 2 came out smoking, and led 14-9-1 after 5 innings. The Z team couldn't get any offensive traction till the open inning when they tried coming back for the upset by scoring 7 runs for a total of 8 for the bronze metal. Wally team scored 3 more in the 6th for a 17-10-7 lead and not having to bat in the 7th as team 1 could only muster 2 runs in the 7th for a final of 17-12-8. Ralph Boswell made two fantastic snags at 3rd base, leaping high to grab line shots. They surprised him too. 😆 🤣

We are still doing a version of the Flip Flop for three team games. In the Seventh inning, the Team with the most runs gets to sit and watch. The Team with the least runs gets to bat first. The second place team defends against the team with the least runs. Then, the second place team bats and the Team with the most runs gets to defend their lead and if the second place team doe not catch them, the game is over. There is a chance the team with the least runs will have a come from behind inning and overtake the team with the most runs. Then, they will have to hang around and defense their lead. The intent of this version of the Flip Flop is to allow the teams to defense against their rival.

WH vs Kissimmee American League recap.

Today we played the team from Kissimmee, 2 games at Diamond Plex field.

Although game one may have not been our best play, we were in the fight! After scoring 4 runs in the first, we were quiet for most of the game until scoring 5 runs in the 6th. Unfortunately, we still fell short, losing by a score of 12-15.

We won game two 14-13. Don Fee hit a HR in the first inning giving us 3 run start. However, Kissimmee hit back scoring 2 in the first then 4 making it a 6-3 game. Our fielding improved so we were able to keep the Kissimmee team at bay until we started our bats going.

We will take on Sebring on Friday October 8th and Solivita on Tuesday October 12th. Both games will be played at Diamond Plex field starting at 9 am.

From LGG.

Friday, October 1st
What a great day to play softball. The temperature was around 80 degrees at game time with very little humidity. We had 37 ball players that wanted to play ball today. Today is a Friday before a FHC Tournament so a bunch of the guys just wanted to have batting practice on another field. We made three teams, 2-12 player teams and 1-13 player team. Spitaleri managed Team 1, Wally managed Team 2 and Hill managed Team 3. We played 12 players on the field using 5 outfielders. Somehow, we manage to get quite a few runs with 5 outfielders. Team 2 scored 2 runs in the first inning on hits by Bobby Reagan, Pete Gutenberger, Ralph Boswell, Ray Levesque and Bill Rutan. Team 1 got into the action with 5 runs in the second inning on hits from JD Davis, Bob Zelazny, Jerry DeRidder, Kirk Coffman, Mark Tutrani, Poke Rodriguez and Richard Marino. After 4 innings, the score was 5-5-0. Team 3 got into the action in the fifth inning scoring 2 runs on hits by Steve Hill, Kevin Geiling and Bobby Vandenberg. Team 1 and Team 2 continued to battle for the lead and after six innings the score was 9-11-2. We decided to use the Flip Flop version discussed in Tuesday's write up so Team 3 batted first and did not score. Team 1batted next and was down two runs when Chris Constantine smashed a line drive up the middle for a double. Charlie Giordano followed with a screamer down the third base line scoring Chris making it a one run game. JD came up next and hit a line drive in the gap between right field and right center field which everyone thought would score Charlie but the defense made several good throws to get him at the plate by a step. Game Over. Team 2 wins 11-10-2
Best hitters were:
Gerry DeRidder 3-3
Kirk Coffman 3-3
Bobby Reagan 4-4
Ralph Boswell 4-4
Kevin Geiling 3-3
