Matta's A's took on Guzzo's Yankees in a battle for first place. Shorthanded, Matta dipped into the pool to call up 2 TOC players to fill out his roster. Both performed admirably in their Winter Haven debut. The A's jumped out 3-0 in the first, but Guzzo's Yanks scored regularly to go up by 10, 14-4 after 4. Fueled by timely hits and a few miscues it looked to be a runaway. But Matta's boys would have none of it and posted 8 in the 5th. Back and forth it went as the defenses tightened and Guzzo's 11 hung on for a 19-17 victory. Matta's boys were led by 3 hits each from Matta, Wiltshire, Vanderhyde and Crowell. Guzzo's troop was led by 4 hits each from Guzzo and DeRidder, and 3 hits each from Book, Hurn, Rivera, DeBroeck, and Carpenter. The Yanks now hold a slim 2 game lead going into the break.
