Beer Friday

As October begins a trickle of players began showing up today, the big drips included Ron Pepin, Les Jacobson, Don Keller and Frank Miller.  Just kidding guys, it’s great to have you back.

The Angels or Hit Team managed by Freddie Gonzalez (Coffman, Gonzalez, Laffoon, Jacobson, Denny, Herbie O., Benson, Poke, Burns, Simon, Kallister, LoPiccolo) were off and running.  They scored 4 runs on 5 singles, a walk and a Sac fly.

The Sit Team managed by Gerry DeRidder (Constantine, Witmer, DeRidder, Dampier, Marino, Keller, Pepin, Walsko, Wells, Moots, Miller, Smith) took the first inning off before they got 4 in the 2nd inning.  The big hit was a double by Keller and 5 singles.

The Field Team managed by Bob Hite (Steve Hill, Edwards, Giordano, Jacobs, Butler, Hite, Lopez, King, Duff Hill, Sergio, Bess and Gene Baker) got 2 in the first with 3 singles and a hard hit double by Edwards. They got 5 runs in the second with 6 singles and another double for Edwards.  At the end of 2nd inning the score was 4 – 4 – 7.

The Angels turned on the jets in the 4th thru the 7th scoring 3, 5, 5 and 2. During that stretch they got home runs from Benson and Laffoon, doubles from Jacobson and Gonzalez, 11 singles and a triple by Benson. Except for good defense from Sergio, Butler, King and Giordano they would have scored more.

The Sit Team got 2, 3, 1 and 2 runs during the 3rd thru 6th innings. Keller led off the 5th with a triple and scored on a sac fly but otherwise the Sit Team got 14 singles.  Makes it hard to score a lot of runs without the big hit.  What made it even harder, to score, was good defense from infielders Denny, Jacobson and Laffoon and outfielders Herbie O., Gonzalez and Coffman. Tough to hit pitches from the eventual winner Pat LoPiccolo didn’t help the Sit Team either.

The Hit Team could manage only 5 more runs, 2 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th.  Homeruns from Edwards and Duff Hill accounted for all the runs in those 2 innings. Solid defense from Witmer, Keller, Constantine, Miller and DeRidder ended many a rally before they could get started.  The Hit Team had a chance in the bottom of the 7th to grab the silver after Edwards hit a triple with one out.  But Josh Wells got the next 2 hitters to salvage a tie for 2nd place.

The Angels took home the victory with 19 totals runs to 12 for the other two teams.
