Tuesday January 31, 2017  Field C

Two National Leagues teams took the field today on Field C.  The Nationals led by Elmer Black and the Braves skippered by Larry Powell.  The visiting Nationals being the visitors batted in this order:  Shaffer, Ing, Rutan, Lopez, King, Ridley, Guspyt, Hampton, Hawbaker, Welton and Black.  The Braves took the field with Castillo, Ayer, Burtner, Dampier, Spitaleri, Hill, Minder, Levesque, Wheeler, Navarro, Goreth, LaMay, Powell and McManus.

The Nationals started with two walks an error another walk, than a change of pitchers. Two hits and 5 runs had crossed the plate.  Castillo led off for the Braves with a triple and Ayer singled him home.  Score after the first Nats 5 – Braves 1.

Next inning Guspyt led off with a single for the Nats to a standing ovation from his Red Ed Fan Club that numbered about 20 in attendance for the game.  But the pitching of Braves Manager left him stranded on first base.  Braves push across two more runs in the bottom of the inning.  Nats 5 – Braves 3. Both teams posted zeros in the third.  The Nationals added 2 runs in the fourth while the Braves tallied 1.  The Nats went out 1 2 3 in the 5th while the Braves bats came alive and they took the lead by adding 5 runs.  After fifth inning ended it was Braves 9 Nats 7.  Game on now.  Nats came back to tie the game in the top of the sixth.  The Braves were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth and the Nats added another 5 spot to take a 14 to 9 lead after 7 innings.

The Nationals added another 5 runs in the 8th to take a good lead, but the Braves did not give up that easily and hammered across 7 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Nats added 2 more in the 9th then held off the Braves in the bottom of the ninth for a final score of Nationals 21 and Braves 16.  Good game guys.  Lots of good hitting and fielding plays.  Thanks for the fans in the stands.
We still need some scorekeeping lessons.  It is really simple.  No X for outs and the little box marked if it is a BB 1B 2B 3B HR
