Merry Christmas to ALL WHSS members and their family. I thought a write up would be good for the last game before Christmas 2022.
There were 14 players on each team as some players didn't sign in and wanted to play. Our commissioner, Don Witmer accommodated them. That is why no players got 4 at bats and many only had 2. Please sign in for open ball. Numbers are important. Teams were led by Spitaleri, Witmer and Hill. Steve Hill's team jumped out to a 2-0-0 lead at the end of 1 inning but ran out of gas after that as they didn't score again till the 5th inning and ended up with 7 runs.
So the Spit team and Wit team battled it out with Spit leading 18-12 after 5 innings. It was 19-14 after 6 innings going to the open inning because one team was down by more than 10. This is when it got interesting as Spitaleri only had to hold the Witmer team for the win. Well, they went down fighting, they had tying and go ahead run in scoring position with 2 outs after scoring 4 runs. George Knox stepped up and hit a vicious line drive to center field that was run down for the final out. Final Score was 19-18-7.

Joyce and I have awarded about 40 QUILTS of VALOR to veteran WHSS and Lakeland ball players. If there are more vets out there please contact me for an application if you wish. I make some of these myself and there is another ceremony being planned on January 20th at noon after our games. There will be 7 Veterans awarded that day. Join us that day.
