RECAP FOR THE WEEK OF 11/30 TO 12/3

Game recap Tuesday, November 30, 2021

Today, the last day of hurricane season, the American League played on Field “C”. It was the left-handed players against the right-handed players.

23 players showed to play. Coach JD Davis had the lefties as visitors; seven of his eleven players batting were left-handed. Coach Lou G. had the right-handed crew, 12 in all.

In the first two innings, the lefties only scored 1 run (shocking!), while the righties scored 10 runs. It looked like the righties were going to run away with it, however the lefties had something to say about that. In innings 3, 4, & 5, the lefties scored ten runs, tying the game 11-11. It took the rest of the game for the righties to take over scoring nine runs while holding the lefties to zero. After all was said and done, the righties won 12-21. The sun played a part in today’s game, making it difficult for the outfielders to make catches.

Wally Wallace was the winning pitcher, he also went 4-4. “Don’t do It!”

We look forward to the snowbirds coming down to beef up the league. We are in the process of forming three teams and playing other outside teams.

The National League had a three team game on Field B. No one took the time to write up the game but after six innings the score was 8-14-20. They used to "protect your lead" concept and the final score was 15-14-20. The last place team scored 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning to overtake the second place team. The second place team could not manage to score a run in the middle of the seventh inning so they ended up in last place. The Home Team did not get to bat in the ninth inning.

On Friday, we had enough players to have four teams. We combined some of the National League players with 12 American League players to have 22 players on Field B. The rest of the National League played on Field A. I did not get a write up from Field A yet. On Field B, it was one crazy game. The visiting team had the hot bats for the first five innings. The score was 20-2 after five innings and the home team thought we were going to start the flip/flop in the sixth inning. The Visitors only scored one run in the top of the seventh inning so the home team took advantage of that and scored 7 runs. After 6 innings, score was 21-9. The visiting team could only score 2 runs in the seventh inning. I think they were worn out from all the hits and runs from the first five innings. The home team woke up in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored 14 runs to tie the game, 23-23. The visiting team only scored 1 run in the top of the eighth inning and the home team scored 2 runs. That was the first time the home team was ahead all game. The top on the ninth inning started out great for the home team. The first two batters made outs. Then, the rally started and the visiting team scored 7 runs before their final out was made. The home team did not score in the bottom of the ninth so the final score was 31-25. Some of the crazy things that happened were the visiting team scored 19 runs in the first four innings with two outs in each of those innings before they scored the first run. The home team scored 23 runs in two innings thanks to the "catch-up rule". The home team scored 7 runs in the last inning after two outs were made. That means they scored 26 runs after two outs were made. This shows that anything can happen in senior softball.

Hitters from the visiting team were:

Steve Hicks and Pete Gutenberger were 6/7. Pete hit three triples.

Rad Pcholinski, Freddie Gonzalez, Mark Tutrani and Ron Pepin were 5/7

Bill Testa and Jim Vining were 4/7

Hitters for the home team were:

Alan Miller 4/5

Tom Kniery, Lonnie Netzel, Ralph Boswell, George Knox and Bobby Dowdy were 4/6

More to come if I get another write up.
