Today was not only Charlie's birthday but he celebrated by hitting a bunch of doubles and going 4 for 5. That's 4 doubles in 5 at bats. Good Day Charlie!
Charlie wasn't the only one hitting the ball hard and far today. Nick Matta's Hit Team of Scarbrough, Toro, Zelazny, T Smith, Oesterreich, Thompson, Matta, Mohan, Moots and Abney started out on fire highlighted by a Juan Toro homer, doubles by Smith and Toro and a Richie Moots triple. They put up innings of 4-5-3 before they slowed down.
Jeff Simon's Sit Squad starring Witmer, Rivera, Giordano, Coffman, Simon, Marino, Chrest, Wells and Barnes kept pace with a Rivera Round-Tripper and Charlie's doubles to post 8 runs over the first three innings.
Meanwhile Fred Gonzales managed Gonzalez, King, Butler, DeRidder, Regan, Schapler, Lopez, Powell and Baker to a second place 9 run total after 3 innings on the strength of a Ron Butler Home Run, doubles by King, DeRidder, Regan, and Schapler, and a triple by DeRidder.
After the third inning the scoring slowed a bit with the Hit Squad stringing enough singles together to plate 3 more runs and maintain their lead. The Sit Team brought their total to 10 runs on Charlie's doubles and Freddy's Angels posted 5 runs over the span without an extra base hit.
The Hit Team went scoreless in the last inning as did the Sit Team but the Field team came through in the bottom of the seventh with 3 runs to win the game by a run.
Final Score: Hit Team 15, Sit Team 10, Field Team 16.
The Winning Pitcher was Larry Powell.
