This season has gone by much too fast. We only have four more play dates until the end of year playoffs but with the exception of this Friday we are scheduled to play doubleheaders everyday, which means seven more games to determine who will fight it out for the Championship. Anything can happen.
The Championship games will be played on the 28th of February between the top two teams in each league. The other four teams will play on the other fields. After the games, we will have our end of year Family BBQ. Once again Ron Salyer and his posse will serve up the very best BBQ pork sandwiches, Potato Salad, and Baked Beans. Family members are encouraged to come out and root for their favorite team, meet their spouses teammates, and enjoy a great meal. Food will be served around 1130. Let your managers know how many family members will be attending so we can plan accordingly.
The league will continue to play ball after the season ends. We will be playing in Lakeland at the Southwest Complex on Tuesdays. There will be no games on Fridays. We will be playing under the summer format so we encourage all pool players to come out. Beginning in March we will return to the Diamond Plex and our usual Tuesday-Friday Schedule. Again under the summer rules format.
Our player gifts will be distributed before play this Friday. Please stop by the check-in table before the game to pick up your sports mug. The BOD chose this gift to help combat dehydration during the hot and humid days.
Our annual Golf outing is scheduled for March 21st at Bartow Golf Course. It will be a four man scramble format. You can sign up as an individual or as a team. Participants do not have to play in the league. We will have a shotgun start at 0815. That way we can stay for drinks and lunch afterwards. Cost will be approximately $25 per person.
Mark you calendars for Wednesday, 26 March. That is the day for the Lakeland-Winter Haven Inter-league competition. This year it will be held in Winter Haven. Our Chairman (Freddie Gonzalez) has done a great job in putting together a super program. Besides our softball games, he has set up some skills competitions (home runs, pitching, base running, and throwing). Additionally we will be having food and beverages for all participants and fans. Sign up sheets will be available this Friday. Again we would ask that you indicate number of family members that plan on attending.
Lastly, it is time to start thinking about new BOD members for next year. We have three openings this year...the Commissioner position and two Board positions. If you are interested in running, please let the BOD know. If you have someone you want the BOD to approach to run, let us know that as well. Ballots will be on the web site and available at the park during August.
See you at the park.
