Tuesday, March 1 on Field C
It seems like every game is a tight battle for first place, today's tilt between Matta's 11 and Freddy's Angels was no different. A 2 run blast by Doerbaum put Matta's boys out to an early lead. (He must not like Palm trees because he is trying to knock over the one beyond the center field fence). The Angels answered with 5 in the 2d and 4th and 4 in the fifth, to bump Pinnick off the bump (we don't really have a bump, just a screen). Doerbaum relieved and put up 3 zeros on the Angels in the 6th, 7th and 8th. Matta's boys hung a 6 spot in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th to set up an exciting finish with the Angels up by 1. Matta's boys scored 2 in the top of the 9th featuring a booming Seguin double off the left field fence, to take a 16-15 lead into the home half of the 9th. However after a leadoff double by Jacobson followed by another double by Quinones the game was tied. With no out Matta went to the playbook and issued 2 intentional walks to load the bases for the wily veteran Zelazny who brought his 4 for 4 bat with him and after a mighty swing and miss delivered the clutch game winning sacrifice fly. Angels win 17-16. Brock who battled all day gets the win, Doerbaum who pitched very well in relief (and didn't see much to hit after the first), took the hard luck loss. Matta's leading hitters: Matta 3-4 and a BB, Stier 3-5 3b, Doerbaum 2-2 HR, 2BB SacF, Gazerek 4-5, Seguin 3-5 2b, Thiery 3-5 3b.......Angels: Witmer 3-5, Jacobson 5-5 2b, Quinones 4-5 2b, Deemie 3-4 3b, Zelazny 4-4 GWSacF.
