NEWS FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
There was a Board meeting after the games on Tuesday and the Board voted on several issues that will affect play for the remainder of this year and for the season next year. Those items are:
- Game time change (Winter Hours) will begin on Tuesday, November 14th. Be at the ballpark no later than 9:00 AM. Games will begin at 9:30 AM or as soon as the teams are made. This will be the game time hours when the season begins in January.
- The 2024 season will begin on Friday, January 5th next year. We hope to have six teams in the National League and two teams in the American League. We need a few more people to sign up to make that happen. Ask you friends and neighbors to come play ball with us.
- Infield warmups will be limited to the first inning on all games, two team or three team. After the first inning, no infield warmups will be allowed. The pitcher can still have three warmup pitches if he wants them. The defensive team shall take the field as quick as possible after their third out is made. The offensive team should get their batters ready to hit as soon as possible.
- The National League Draft will be held on Tuesday, December 5th. Managers are needed for each team. We have a lot of members that are capable of managing teams but for some reason they don't volunteer. It is a little bit of work for a short period on time. But you get to draft the players on your team that you want to play with. Please let the Commissioner or a board member know if you would like to be a Manager for the 2024 season. The Board will have a meeting in early December to select the managers for the 2024 season.
- The Board voted to purchase new Hats and Shirts again this year. The hats will be Navy Blue with a Lime Green WHSS logo on the front of the hat. The shirts will be Navy Blue and Lime Green.
- Nominations for the POLK COUNTY SENIOR SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME are in progress and will end on November 15th. We have three eligible players from Winter Haven. Chris Constantine, Loren Fabian and Nick Matta. If you would like to nominate someone, please see Don Witmer for the details and a nomination form.
- The Angel Tree program that we have undertaken to support the children at Lake Elbert Elementary School has been put on hold for this year. The school is being rebuilt and the children have been transferred to other schools in the area. The Board is looking at other options for this year.
