American League Update

On Thursday, June 29th, the Winter Haven Travel team traveled over to Solivita for an exhilarating three-game tournament and a mouthwatering BBQ. The scorching heat made the day even more challenging.
Equipped with bats, balls, and wings, we were prepared for the battles ahead. Our first game was against the formidable Solivita Red, White, and Blue Team. Solivita wasted no time and swiftly scored five runs. By the fourth inning, the score stood at Solivita 12 runs and Winter Haven 5 runs. Undeterred by the blistering weather, we fought back relentlessly. As the sixth inning concluded, Winter Haven had caught up, with a score of 12 runs to Solivita's 16 runs. In the top of the seventh inning, we unleashed our full potential, scoring an impressive eight runs, ultimately securing a victorious score of 20 to 16. Exhausted but triumphant, we celebrated our hard-fought win.
However, our joy was short-lived as we faced the Kissimmee team next. Fatigued from the previous game, Winter Haven struggled to find their rhythm, managing only four hits throughout the entire game and failing to score a single run. The heat had taken its toll, and we suffered a crushing defeat with a score of 16 to zero.
On a brighter note, the BBQ that followed was nothing short of spectacular. We indulged in a delectable feast of wings, ribs, hot dogs, and hamburgers. It was a soirée to remember, filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Next week, we eagerly anticipate our rematch against Solivita, as Diamond Plex will be closed for the entire week.

Winter Haven Board Meeting

Tuesday 20 June 2023.
Attendees: Don W., Bob H., Chris C., and Lou Guzman.
Manny and Loren out due to medical.
8:00 am meeting was called to order by Commissioner Witmer.
I) Minutes from the April 18, 2023 meeting were waived.
II) Treasures report by Bob Hite, see report for details.
III) No old business was covered.
IV) New Business
1- Sponsor Gifts was tabled until Loren returns.
2- Summer Party: This even will be sponsored by Glory Days Grill, Winter Haven. Date proposed is Tuesday 8 August 2023.
3- Other Business:
A) Lou Guzman redid the sponsor letter and proposed a new way of presenting the solicitation package.
B) Lou Guzman recommended that we include sponsors on all communications.
C) Don Witmer reported that Glory Day’s Grill will be providing water at some of the games during the summer.
D) Lou Guzman reported that the American League will be traveling to Solivita on Thursday 30 June 2023 for a three team tournament and BBQ. Members of the team will be providing the food and will be doing the grilling as well.

The fields will be closed on the following dates:
Friday 30 June, field maintenance.
Tuesday 4 July, America’s birthday.
Friday 7 July, USA JO Cup National Tournament.

The Winter Haven team members will be providing delicious food for the BBQ, as they will be playing the first two games and will start grilling right after.
This event promises to be a thrilling experience for all involved, with top-notch softball games and mouth-watering BBQ. The Winter Haven team is eager to showcase their culinary skills and provide a delectable spread for everyone to enjoy.
As the American League travel team arrives at Solivita, they will be greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere. The tournament will be a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and compete against the other talented teams.

American League Update.
On Thursday, June 1st, the Winter Haven travel team embarked on a thrilling journey to Solivita for a two-game match-up. Despite both teams missing some key players, the first game was a nail-biter, with the score going back and forth. By the end of the fifth inning, it was a close 12-11 game. However, Winter Haven managed to score seven runs in the last two innings, while Solivita only scored five, resulting in a final score of 19-16, with Winter Haven emerging victorious.
The second game was equally exciting, with both teams putting up a good fight. Winter Haven managed to clinch the win with a score of 15-12.
The games were filled with notable hits, with Jose "J-Rod" Rodriguz being named the MVP after hitting an impressive 7/7. Dana Ferrande also had a great game, going 6/7 and hitting two home runs. Eddie Hurn hit two home runs as well, going 5/7. Mike Vaccaro hit a home run and went 3/6, while Rusty Skipper hit an old-fashioned in-the-park home run and went 4/6.
Overall, it was an exhilarating day of softball, with both teams putting up a great fight. Winter Haven's impressive performance and notable hits made for an unforgettable game.
We will return on June 29th for a three team tournament.
