RECAP FOR THE WEEK OF 9/14 TO 9/18
There have not been many posts lately because of the rain and we still don' have a lot of people interested in doing write ups. Hopefully that will change when we get more people here this fall. We are looking forward to our Canadian friends returning this year. We certainly missed them last year. We were rained out on Tuesday but we still held the monthly board meeting. It looks like we are going back to some traditional shirt colors this year. The plan is for a Maroon and Navy Blue shirt and still use the same hats that we had last year. The hats were pretty expensive and the plan last year was to use the hats for two years. When you come to Florida this year, bring your hat with you. We will have hats for sale for $12.00. Our player sign ups have been going slow. If you know you are coming to Florida to play ball this year, get your application in a soon as possible. The fee is still $40.00. We will need to order new shirts in mid November and need to have a good count on the number of players that we will have for the 2022 season. Now on to the ball games.
Thursday, September 16, 2021 Winter Haven visited Solavita for two games match up.
It was evident that the rain outs we had the past two weeks took its toll on our play. Missed pop ups, drop balls, and mishandled grounder all showed their ugly heads in both games. The team’s hitting also took a beating as the .487 average was nothing to brag about.
We lost both games but Don Fee did show power with 2 hrs in game 2.
Game 1 was 13-5 and game 2 was 22-12.
We look forward to playing Solavita in October in our place hoping for a better out come..
Thanks to all who played.

We had 37 players show up to play ball this morning. We had our normal three team game with one team having 13 players. JD Davis is back to Florida so he managed one team along with Wally Wallace and Robert Spitaleri. After only playing 1 of 5 games the last 3 weeks, we finally got to play a 3 team game Friday. It is the only time I can recall ever seeing a 3 team game where no team reached 10 runs. The Spitalari team had a hard time getting started as the score after 5 innings was JD 6, Spitilari 2 and Wally 7. JD and Wally both put up goose eggs in the 6th but #2 team scored 4 with Spitalari, Gutenberg, Boswell and Tony Q all scoring. So entering the open inning it was JD 6, Spitilari 6 and Wally 7. JD put up 3, Spitilari 0 and Wally 2 for a final tally of JD 9, Spitilari 6 and Wally 9. One very fine catch was made in left center by Chris Lynch charging in hard on a high blooper everyone thought would drop in except Chris who went to the turf to come up with a super basket catch including grass stains.
See y'all Tuesday

We didn't play ball today but some of us umpired a lot of ball today. The annual GATOR REDLEG FIKE MEMORIAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT was hosted by the Winter Haven National Guard at the Diamondplex on Saturday. This is a charity tournament and the money raised from this tournament is used to Honor and Recognize past and present United States Field Artillerymen. WHSS supports this tournament by providing umpires at no cost to the National Guard. I want to thank all of the guys that volunteered their time on a Saturday to provide support for this worthy tournament. A GREAT BIG THANKS TO: JD Davis, Loren Fabian, Tim Gallagher, Steve Hill, Robert Spitaleri, Mark Tutrani, Bob Vandenberg and Don Witmer.
