The game started with neither team doing anything in the 1st
inning. Top of the 2nd,
again, not much more from the Legion; bottom of 2nd was much better
for the Cobras-scoring 5 on 7 hits, highlighted by Ridley’s double.Legion came back with 5 in the 3rd with O’Callaghan’s double plus 5 base hits. Cobras added 3 to make it 8-5 Cobras after 3 complete. Cobras added 3 more in the 4th with homeruns by Gonzalez and Pescie. 11-5 Cobras after 4.
Legion scored 3 in the 5th with Boswell’s double and Fryzowicz’s homerun, none for Cobras but still lead 11-8 after 5. Nothing for Legion in the 6th, while the Cobras added 5 more on 7 hits to make it 16-8 Cobras after 6. Legion struck back in the 7th with 6 big runs on 8 hits while Cobras didn’t score. 16-14 Cobras after 7.
Legion got 2 to tie the game at 16-16. Vandenberg led off the bottom of the 8th for the Cobras with a triple, then 3 more hits yielded 2 runs. 18-16 Cobras after 8 innings. Legion led off the top of the 9th with a single then the defensive play of the game came when Ken Gelinas, the first baseman, caught a sharply hit, low-line drive, then jumped to tag out the runner before he could get back to first-double play; then a hit and groundout to end the game.
