First let express our appreciation to your Havendale Blvd Kentucky Fried Chicken for sponsoring and supporting our league.  Your shirt says Pen Geo, Inc on the back but the logo is pure KFC.  Wear 'em around town and stop in for a meal now and then.

Next, say thanks to Gene Baker for submitting Today's photos.  All of our collected photos can be seen in individually named albums at THIS LINK and today's pics are in an album labeled Kentucky Fried Friday Jan 2014.  Check it out.

Gatorland Field

What a day for softball, chicken, beer(or soda) and friends. The Gatorland Field had the Rangers playing the Tigers.  Good defense by the Tigers kept the Rangers off the board early with plays from Freddie Dampier and Mike Wiltshire. Tom Hamilton got the Tigers moving early with a long triple to right, but the home team could only manage 1 run.

In the 2nd inning the Rangers got their bats working as Bob Zelazny lined a triple to center with 2 ducks on the pond.  The 3rd saw those Rangers push 5 across with the aid of 8 singles in a row. The score at the end of three; Rangers 9 and Tigers 1.  The 4th started well for the Tigers, first blanking the Rangers and then Art Zakrowski  hitting a 2 bagger.  But good Ranger defense again limited the home team to 1 run.

The Tigers fared a little better in the 5th with a double from Dampier sandwiched between singles from Hartley and Hite had the Tigers moving again but the defense of Erb, Laffoon, Constantine, Ing and Jacobson flashed their gloves and arms limiting the damage to just 2 runs.

The 7th saw the Rangers add 2 runs on the hot bat, and bad leg, of Commish Bob Zelazny who had another triple.  The last three innings saw the Rangers’ outfield make catch after catch, highlighted by Juan Toro’s diving grab, that sunk the Tigers chances of getting back into the game.  The final score was Rangers 14 Tigers 6.

I think the Rays were dreaming about getting some chicken today instead of hitting the ball. We must have thought our bats were Chicken Legs instead of Mikens.
The Rays Team only managed to plate 4 runs in nine innings while the red hot Angels plated 18 runs in eight times at bat. A good job of hitting by the Angels entire team as five of their players went 3 for 4.
The Angels were hot on defense also. Ron Pepin made several outstanding catches in left field. A new player to Winter Haven, Alvin Moss, did a great job in right center field. Scott Seguin was like a vacuum cleaner up the middle and Jerry DeRidder made several great plays at first base.

Leading Hitters for the Angels were Jose Rivera, Scott Seguin, Jerry DeRidder, JD Davis and Greg Bombard who all went 3/4. Joe D'Herin, Alvin Moss, Greg Denny and Keith Linton were 2/4. Jose Rivera hit an in the park home run.

Leading hitters for the Rays were Eddie Gazarek and Herb "O" 2/3. Don Held and Terry Smith were 2/4. Rick Brock hit an in the park home run.
