January 9 Opening Day

What a great opening day. You couldn't ask for better weather as we kicked off the 2026 season. Before getting into the games, I want to recognize George Tinsley (a member of the Hall of Fame) for providing us with a great Kentucky Fried Chicken lunch, something he has done for twenty years. He has and continues to be one of our strongest and benevolent sponsors.

Today's games were scheduled to allow the managers to evaluate their teams and to determine positions and lineups for the season. From the score sheets it looks like that was accomplished and that we can look forward to a highly competitive season.

Unfortunately we only have the summary from two of our games. Home managers are reminded that they are responsible for writing up the results of their game

Dave Rounds' Young Guns played Don Ouding's Old Timers on Field A. The game started with the usual controversy regarding sun in your eyes while batting. The managers on this field need to agree on procedures before the game. Anyway, after resolution, the game proceeded without incident. The Old Timers broke out on top by outscoring the Young Guns two to nothing in the first. The Young Guns bounced back in the second to take the lead and then built on it throughout the remainder of the game by tying or winning every inning. The game ended after eight innings as lunch was fast approaching. The final score was the Young Guns 15 and the Old Timers 6..

Outstanding performances
Ramon 3-3 w/double
Williamson 3-3/double
Tutrani 3-3
Letourneau 3-3
Dampier 3-3

The yet to be named teams of Sam Lopez and Steve Hill played their game on Field B. This proved to be a very interesting game as Team Hill found themselves seven runs behind after the second inning. To their credit they did not fold and clawed their way back to finish a respectable three runs behind Sammy's guys. It was feast or famine for Team Hill as they had three goose eggs, a three run, a four run, and a five run inning. If time would have allowed them to play more than six innings they might have made it all the way back. Final score Team Lopez 15 and Team Hill 12.

Outstanding performances
Knox 3-4 w/triple
Gonzalez 3-34 w/triple
Gilbert 4-4
Reed 4-4
BJ 4-4
Spialeri 4-4
Vanderhyde 4-4
Ora 3-3
John 3-3

January 2nd Games

Before we recap today's games I want to remind everyone of the opening day luncheon on Tuesday, 6 January. It will be a hectic morning as we will be issuing uniforms, taking team pictures, and playing exhibition games,.... all before lunch. We would ask everyone to be on time. That time is 09:00. Report directly to your assigned field. Pool players need to sign in at the desk.

Field B
Team Tutrani took on Team Rounds in the first game of the new year. Dave's guys started slow but managed to tie Mark's team after two innings. The next four innings saw Team Tutrani extending their lead every inning. After six innings, they enjoyed  a ten run lead. The seventh inning was exciting for both teams. Dave's guys put up six to narrow the lead, but then Mark's folks responded with five of their own. Team Rounds only managed three runs in the last two innings, so Team Tutrani did not have to bat in the ninth. Final score Team Tutrani 19 and Team Rounds 15.

Outstanding performances
Moots 3-3
Boito 3-3
Santa Cruz 2-3 w/ homer and double
Zelazny 5-5
Rabideau 4-4 w/2 doublesTeam

Field C
Hill faced off against Team Ouding in another nail biter. Tied after three innings, the game remained close through the seventh inning with only one run between them. In the eighth Team Hill got their first three batters on base, but only managed to score a single run. Team Ouding on the other hand, put up five runs on six hits and a fielder's choice. Needing three to tie, Team Hill failed as they only managed to get one hit in the ninth. The final score was  Team Ouding 22 and Team Hill 19.

Outstanding performances
Nester 4-5 w/double
Smith 4- 5 w/double
Lynch 4-4 w/triple and homer
Price 4-4
Sully 4-4 w/2 doubles and triple
