December 26 Game

Before we get to today's game, I just received the score sheets from Tuesday's late game so let me start with the game between Team DeLoach and Team Tutrani. What started out as a great game with both teams scoring three runs in the first. Unfortunately for Team Tutrani that was as close as they were to get.. Team Deloach won six of the next eight innings, putting up  four or more runs in four innings along the way. By the eighth inning Team DeLoach was up 24 to 12. With their backs to the wall, Team Tutrani needed a miracle to pull out the victory. Alas, it was not to be as a double play shut them down and they failed to score. Final Count was Team DeLoach 24 and Team Tutrani 12.

Outstanding performances
Woodsby 4-5
JR 3-4 w/ triple
Denny 4-4
Truchetta 3-4
Hale 4-4
Rios 5-5 w/3 triples,2 doubles
Johnston 4-4
DeLoach 4-5
Vanderhyde 3-4

We had a very exciting three team game on field B. The defenses were aided by having three American league shortstops in the line up. Needless to say, it was hard to get one past that side of the infield. Team Hill found it particularly difficult as they were shut down with no runs in the second through the fourth innings. They did put up eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make it respectable. Team DeLoach did not  suffer the same fate, as they scored multiple in six of the seven innings and put up a total of 22 runs for the game.  Team Rounds fell behind early but scored in every inning to keep it close..Their big inning was the sixth when they scored six runs to close within three. So going into the last inning they found themselves chasing eight runs. In the bottom of the inning they did manage to put up four but it was not enough. Final score: Team DeLoach 23, Team Rounds 19, and Team Hill 12.

Outstanding Performances
Nester 4-4
Zelazny 4-4
Fleming 4-4
Michl 4-5
Lopez 4-4

December 23 Games

We will only be the game on field B between Team Ouding and Team Lopez as the game on field c was running late.

Santa came early for Team Ouding, as Santa delivered cold bats and colder gloves to every member of Team Lopez. The game's outcome was never in doubt as Team Ouding was able to score at will. They scored multiple runs in all but two innings. On defense, they managed to snuff out every time Team Lopez looked like they were going to mount a charge. For the nine innings, they only managed to score in four of the innings. It was so lopsided that we invoked the flip flop rule denying Team Ouding their last two at bats.  The final score was Team Ouding 17 and Team Lopez (drum roll please) 4.. For the losing team, the only highlight was the cookies that Donna brought to the field. They were delicious.
Outstanding performances
Medina 3-4
DeLong 3-4
Toro 4-4
Zelazny 3-4 w?t a four error homer

I want to keep everyone informed about plans for the upcoming year. Diamond Plex filed will undergo renovations beginning in January, which will impact our schedule.

We will begin the 2026 season on Tuesday, January 6, with Uniform Day, Team Photos, and a Luncheon. This will allow managers to meet with their teams.

Opening Day will be Friday, January 9, 2026. We will play from January 9 through January 20, 2026. (All games will be double headers, 5 innings, 4 runs per inning, last inning will be an open inning, and with a 1 hour and 15 minutes time limit.)

The SSUSA National Tournament will take place January 21–25, 2026. After the tournament, new lights will be installed at Diamond Plex. We are exploring the use of Sertoma Park during this period for pick-up games. (League games will be suspended.)

We anticipate returning to Diamond Plex from February 10–24 (All games will be double headers, 5 innings, 4 runs per inning, last inning will be an open inning, and with a 1 hour and 15 minutes time limit.)

We expect to return to Diamond Plex on or about April 6 through June. Please note that the complex will again be closed for renovations in June and July.

A schedule will be forthcoming. Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation as we work through these improvements. More updates will be shared as they become available.

Friday 19 December Games

We had 55 players today, so we ended up with 5 teams of 11. The two team game was on field  C. Team Spitaleri faced off against Team Lopez. This was never a contest, as Team Lopez came out with guns ablazing and scored multiple runs in every inning except the third. While the bats were on fire, their defense was also performing on all cylinders, holding Team Spitaleri scoreless in four of the seven innings. The final score was Team Lopez 21 and Team Spitaleri 10.

Outstanding performances
Davilla 4-4
Ayers 4-4
Vandderhyde 4-5
Woodsby 4-5 w/homer
Johnston 4-5
Ramon  4-5
Price 5-5
Shaffer 5-5

The game on field B saw Team Hill facing off against Teams Rounds and JD. Steve's bats were lethargic from the start, with their only big inning was a three run sixth. For the seven innings they only managed 6 runs. Team Rounds was the polar opposite, and managed to score three or more runs in six of the seven innings.  They ended up with 22 runs for the game. Team JD was nothing but consistent, scoring in every inning. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome the multiple run innings by Team Rounds. Team JD finished in second with 17 runs. Final score Team Rounds 22, Team JD 17, and Team Hill 6 (yes that is not a misprint)

Outstanding performances
Santacruz 4-5w/double and homer
Nester 4-4 w/2doubles
JD 4-4 w/double and triple
Rounds 5-5
Tobias 5-5 w/triple

Tuesday 16 December Games

Today was Ron Thompson's annual Xmas party at the American Legion. Those in attendance had a great time, complete with pizza and gifts from Santa. This is clearly one of the highlights of the year. Thanks again Ron for your generosity.

Because of the party, the games were limited to seven innings or 11:00, whichever came first. Unfortunately, in their haste to get at the pizza and first choice of presents, the teams on field C left without turning in their score sheets. So for now, the outcome remains a mystery for those looking to see the results.

Team DeLoach faced off against Team Tutrani on Field B in what was a very exciting game. Both teams scored one run in the first . Both teams scored multiple runs in the second with Team DeLoach up by one. The next two innings saw great defensive by both teams with only three runs scored. While Fred's crew's defense remained solid in the 5th,, shutting out Mark's team again, the same could not be said for Team Trutrani as they allowed five runs to be scored. Mark's guys bats came alive in the sixth as they scored four to pull within one. With time running out and down by one, Team Tutrani failed to score while Team DeLoach scored two east to extend their lead. With just a few minutes left, the decision to play eight was made Team Tutrani scored two, but it was not enough so Team DeLoach didn't have to bat. Final score Team DeLoach 14 and Team Tutrani 13.

Outstanding performances
Miller 4-4
Lynch 4-4
Rebel 3-3
Woodsby 3-3
Denny 3-3

Friday 12 December Games

Team Rounds faced off against Team Spitaleri on Field C. Robert's team took a three run lead into the third inning. Team Round put up five in the third to take a very brief lead as Team Spialeri scored three to hold on to a very narrow one run lead. The next four innings saw Robert's team increase their lead as they won every inning. The eighth inning was won by Team Rounds but they still found themselves facing a nine run deficit going into the last inning. In the ninth, three of the first four batters reached base and scored before going out with two men on base. Leading by six, Team Spitaleri did not have to bat and won with a final score Team Spitaleri 19 and Team Rounds 13.

Outstanding performances
Guttenberg 6-6 w/homer
Rabideau 5-5
Neimuth 6-6 w/ double and triple
Jr 6-6w/double
Spitaleri 5-6
Tutrani 5-6
Capozzi 4-5

Juan Toro's team took to the field against  Don Oudings bunch. Team Ouding scored five in the first to take a three run lead after one.and never looked back as they won every inning but one. Going into the eighth inning they were up by five. In the top of the eighth they scored five runs to make it a ten run lead. They took to the field thinking defense since they were hoping for a flip flop scenario. Unfortunately Danny Woodsby had to score the lone run and so the game was forced to go on. Team Ouding scored five in their half of the ninth. So the challenge for Team Toro was that they were now facing a 14run deficit. They went down swinging as five of the first six batters scored before ending the inning with two runners on base. The final score was Team Ouding 25 and Team Toro 16.

Outstanding Performances
Woodsby 5-5
Miller 4-5
Zelazny 5-5 w/homer and double
Ramon 4-5
Jorge 4-5
Gil 4-5
Dampier 4-5

Tuesday 9 December

Today was draft day so we were told we had to be off the field by 11:00. Much to my surprise, we managed to complete both games in the hour and a half. It shows you it can be done if folks hustle on and off the field and don't argue every close call.

Team Rounds and Team Toro played on field B. Team Rounds built a six run lead going into the fourth inning on some solid hitting and good defense. In the fourth however, Team Toro charged back with four runs anchored by a triple by Jim Williamson to pull within three. In the fifth ,both teams were held scoreless. In the sixth, JR led off with a triple and scored the first of their five runs to take the lead. Team Rounds was held scoreless in the last two frames to come up on the short end. Final score Team Toro 11 and Team Rounds 09.
Outstanding performances
Zelazny 3-3
Vanderhyde 3-3
Jose L 3-3
Regan 3-3 w/triple
DeLong 3-3
Woodsby 3-3
Toro 3-3
Hudson 3-3

Team JD and Team Tutrani faced off on field C in another very close game that was not decided until the last out. For the first five innings Team JD looked like they couldn't and wouldn't be stopped. They built a nine run lead as the top off the line up seemed to score at will. The bats were cold in the sixth and went four and out, opening the door for Team Tutrani. They didn't let the opportunity pass as they batted around and scored eight runs. With a slim one run lead, Team
JD looked to pad their lead, which they did. Trailing by four, Team Tutrani needed four to tie and five to win. Alas, they failed to score a single run. Final score Team JD 17 and Team Tutrani 13.

Outstanding performances
Nestor 3-3
DeLoach 4-4
Constantine 3-3
Lonnie 4-4
Mike R 3-4
Miller 3-4/triple
JD 4-4

5 December Games

Today on field B Team Rounds faced off against Team JD in what turned out to be a very interesting game to say the least..The first four innings saw each team score 18 runs. That is  a toal 36 in the four innings. Amazing. The bats were popping. for both teams. Then came the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Team Rounds were shut out over the next three innings, with only one runner managing to reach second base. While at the same time, Team JD managed but one measly run. That measly run proved to be the winning run. Final score Team JD 19 and Team Rounds 18.

Outstanding Pwrformances
Rounds 4-4
Zelazny 4-4
Rutan  4-4
Reagan 3-3
Pablo 4-4 w/triple

Shaffer 3-3

Team Hill took on Team Keller in what ended up a very lopsided game on field C. Team Hill scored in every inning, scoring  five in three of them. Team Keller, on the other hand, never seemed to get on track, falling behind by eleven runs after just three innings. Their best inning was the sixth when they scored three runs and had the bases loaded. Unfortunately, the inning ended on a strikeout.
The final score was Team Hill 24 and Team Keller 8.

Tuesday 2 December Game

After sending  a number of players over to play with the American league, we had enough to field three thirteen man teams on Field B. Today's managers were Steve Hill, Dave Rounds, and Mark Tutrani. The conspiracy theorists were out in force after the first two innings, as Stevs Team opened up a big lead by scoring five runs in each of the first two innings. One inning later it was like a Joy Reid Podcast, with the conspiracy theory totally falling apart as Team Tutrani but up some impressive numbers in the last six innings putting up 5-3-5-5-4-4 to build an insurmountable lead.
The real game came down to a very evenly matched teams.Team Hill maintained a comfortable lead over Team Rounds until the fifth inning, when Dave's guys put up four runs to tie the game. With Team Tutrani up by nine over his two rivals, they extended their lead further by scoring four in the top of the seventh. Both Team Hill and Team rounds found themselves chasing 13 runs. Four of the first five batters for Team Hill scored before three fly balls sent them to the field. Bottom line for Team Rounds was that they needed six to take home the silver and 14 to claim the gold. Alsa it was not meant to be. They did manage two runs before the game ended on a hard hit double play. Final score Team Tutrani 26, Team Hill 18, and Team Round 15.
