A two team game for the National League was held on Field C at the Winter Haven DiamondPlex.  A lot more snow birds are arriving to enjoy the warm weather and SOFTBALL.  Game on as there was only a 10 percent chance of rain today.

The Visitors team was Managed by Richard Moots and lined up this way:  Black, Burns, Crowe, Ducham, Barnes, McPartlan, Witter, Moots, Kline, Mohan and Karen.

Floyd Welton took the lead for the Home team, and his team members were Bess, Guspyt, D. Hill, Zakrowski, Thompson, F. Miller, Welton, Bloom, Ayala, Merritt and Bennett.

Elmer Black lead off with a long fly to left center for the first out.  Burns doubled, a walk to Barnes and base hits from McPartlan and Witter produce 2 runs.  Bess leads off for the home team with a hard smash to first but Mohan made a good play for an unassisted out at first.  Guspyt singles, as does Hill and a fielders choice drives home a run.  In the second inning Kline singles for the only hit of the inning and was erased by a short to second to first double play.  Home team second inning has Miller up and lines one up the middle, Welton and Bloom singles in the only run of the inning.

Top of the 3rd Burns, Crowe, Ducham, Barnes, McPartlan and Witter all had base hits and tallied 3 runs. In the bottom half of the inning the home team had one hit but no runs.  Mohan lead off the fourth with a single, Black does the same and Crowe drives in Mohan for a 6 to 2 lead.  Welton’s team come back with 3 in their half on a single from Thompson, two errors, and hits from Bloom and Ayala.  With one out and the bases loaded and infield fly was hit and caught but the runner on first was off first and tagged out for a double play.  End of 4 innings Visitors 6 Home 5.

Bats warmed up to start the 5th.  Barnes, McPartlan, Witter, Kline, Mohan and Burns all had hits and the visitors tallied 5 runs.  The home team again came back with a leadoff homer from Guspyt (a couple of fielding errors were made in the outfield but with Guspyt’ s blazing speed the official scorer awarded him a home run.  Four singles from Hill, Zakrowski, Thompson, and Miller scored 3 runs before a second, to short to first double play ended the inning.  No runs for the home half.

The seventh inning was a rest inning with the visitors scoring just one run.  The 8th inning started with singles from Kline, Mohan and Karen and after a fly out and fielders choice 3 more singles from Crowe, Ducham, and Barnes gave the 4 runs for the inning.  Home team came back with two in their half of the inning on and single from Guspyt and a long homerun from Duff Hill.  The visitors bats boomed again in the top of the 8th with 5 runs.  Home team leadoff hitter Ayala lined one up the gap for a homer.  The flip flop rule in effect the home team batted in the 9th and make a good effort by rallying for 5 run, but the final score ended Home 21 Visitors 16.

Top Hitters for Visitors:  Burns, 4 for 5, Crowe 5 for 6, Ducham 4 for 5, Barnes 4 for 4 w/walk, McPartlan 3 for 5, Witter 4 for 4, Kline 4 for 5 and Mohan 4 for 5.
