Travel Team News

This message is brought to you by Somewhere Sports Bar.

July 31, 2025

Today, the travel team scheduled a two-game match-up at Solivita. Right from the beginning, it was hot, and so were our bats. We scored five runs in the first inning and kept the pressure on all the way to the seventh. Our defence was also hot. We held Solivita to only one run until the fifth inning. After all was said and done, we were victorious 27-5. This was a big difference after we lost four games the last two times we were at the field.

Game two however would prove that you can't beat the heat. We once again scored five runs in the first inning. We were confident that another win was on the way. However, Mother Nature would play a part in this game. No team scored a run until Solovita scored five runs in the fifth. It was 5 to 5 in the bottom 5th. Neither team could muster hits. At the end, it was a 5-5 tie proving that you can’t beat the heat. We look forward to our next match-up in two weeks.

Notable hits:

Manny Rios: 5/6 2HRs
Brian Daniels: 5/6 4HRs
Frank Campa: 5/6 3 hrs, SAC

Game Recap for Friday 7/25/26

This message is brought to you by 1st Street Diner and Big Tom’s Diner.

In an exhilarating three-team mixed game, managers Mark Tutrani, Fred DeLoach, and Steve Hill took to the field for an unforgettable showdown! On paper, the teams appeared evenly matched, but as we all know, appearances can be deceiving. Team Hill unleashed a batting performance that was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the hottest bats I’ve ever witnessed!

Every single one of Team Hill's 13 players recorded two or more hits in just six innings of play during this thrilling “flip-flop” game. As the excitement built, Team Hill surged ahead with a commanding lead of 22-10-5 heading into the open inning.

Team Tutrani fought valiantly, managing to score 6 runs in a spirited effort, but Team DeLoach struggled to find their rhythm and couldn’t muster a single base runner. In the end, the scoreboard reflected Team Hill's dominance with a final score of 22 runs, Team Tutrani at 16 runs, and Team DeLoach at 5 runs. What a game!

Friday Games

I think we had the highest number of players this summer....49 ball players. That allowed us to have two games with fully manned teams. Now to the games themselves. Before delving into each games let me just say that both games came down to the last inning. There were 24 runs scored in the last inning which I am sure is another one for the record books.
Team Spitalari took on Team Tutrani on Field B. Team Spit only scored one run through four innings allowing Team Tutrani to build an eight run lead. Oh how the game changed in the fifth. Team Spitscored eight runs to tie up the game. They scored one in the sixth and sealed the comeback with 9 runs in the ninth. Team Trutrani was scoreless in the last three frames. Final Score Team Spit 19 and Team Trtrani 9.
Outstanding performances
John Boito 3-4
Fred Dampier 3-4
BJ K 3-4
Bob Spit 3-4
Chris C 3-4
Bob V 3-4
Jeff Rabideau 4-4 hitting for cycle

Team Hill took on Team Lopez on Field C in what was a very exciting game, with the outcome not decided  until the last batter. I say exciting because while Team Hill scored early and took an early lead. They scored in every inning but only had a three run lead going into the last inning.Batting first in the seventh, Team Hill had six runners cross the plate to take a huge 9 run lead and given that Team Lopez had only scored 13 runs in the first six innings the outcome seemed assured.Ut the outcome is decided on the field. Team Lopez scored nine runs to tie up the game.Aided by six walks, their hitters did the rest. So in the end the score was Team Hill 19 and Team Lopez 19.

Outstanding performances
Hector N 4-4
Bob Hudson 3-5 with homer
Jose L 4-4
Earnesto 4-4
Rad 4-4
Testa 3-4
M Ocallahan 4-4

Pablo 4-4
JR 4-4
Daniels 4-4
Zelazny 4-4 (all giftsof scorer)
Steve Hill 4-4
Ron Fleming 3-4
Ron Pepin 3-4

Tuesday Games

We had a very exciting three team game today. Thanks to Wally, Bob S, and Steve Hill for stepping up to manage their respective teams. Wally's team led off by posting three runs and taking the lead. Unfortunately, they only managed three more runs the entire game. They hit the ball well all day, but the stellar defense by Steve's team kept them from crossing the plate more than six times.
Bob Spitalari's team responded with three in the first, and took the lead in the fourth inning when they put up 4 runs. They held onto the lead until the sixth inning when Team Hill tied the score. Team Hill did it by scoring 7 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth. The seventh and final inning saw Team Wally score their last two runs. Team Spitalari scored two as well in the middle of the inning. Team Hill still had a chance, but a great play by Hector Nestor and two caught fly balls by Bob Spitalari snuffed out the rally.
Final score  Team Spitalari 17- team Hill 15- Team Wally 6.
Outstanding Performances
JR 3-3
Fred G 3-3
Bob Vandenberg 3-3
Chris C 4-4
Hector N 4-4

Friday 1 July game

Wally, Robert Spitalari, and Sammy Lopez stepped up to manage the three teams in today's three team game. There were only six runs scored in the first three innings with Sammy's team putting up four of them. They never looked back and were only threatened when Wally's team took a one run lead in the fourth. Unfortunately it only lasted until Sammy's team got up in the bottom of the inning. Team Spitalari had some excellent chances to put up some runs, but were snuffed out in three consecutive innings when Brian Daniels made three of the most incredible catches I have ever seen at shortstop.to end the innings. With Team Wally and Team Spitalari unable to put up runs on the board, Team Lopez cruised to an easy victory. Final Score Team Lopez 13, Team Wally 9, and Team Spitalari 4.
outstanding Performances
Jose Cruz 4-4
Jose D 3-4
Reymundo 3-4
Bob Hudson 3-4

Fwd: Fw: July 8th. Field B mixed game

Subject: July 8th. Field B mixed game
This might very well have been the most amazing "walk off triple play" ending to any softball or baseball game in the history of the game. But first, on to the game with veteran manager Sam Lopez and first time manager Ron Fleming. Team Fleming jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning but didn't score again until the 5th inning when they trailed 8-7. Team Lopez kept chipping away scoring 2 runs at a time. Going to the open inning, home Team Lopez led 9-8.  With Donna still pitching and Lopez doing the catching duties, they just needed 3 outs for the victory. BUT as in Senior Softball something changed as Donna couldn't find the plate and walked the last 2 batters in the order as well as the leadoff hitter to load the bases with no outs. After a conference on the mound, Sam and Donna changed places and play resumed. Sam's first pitch was a ball to the 2nd hitter in the lineup. His next pitch was hit sharply to 3rd base on one hop, who stepped on 3rd for out #1, threw home to Donna for out #2.  The batter, dismayed with his performance, threw his bat and walked off the field for out #3.
So, WP was Donna and Sam picked up the save. WOW!!!!

Tuesday's games

When you read the write up from the game played on Field B, the Game between Wally's (The Ragin Cajan) Team and Team Hill you might say it wasn't much by comparison, but I contend that up until the last inning it was very competitive with some great ball played by both Teams. Team Wally broke on top with five runs in the first inning. Team Hill responded with four  runs in the bottom of the first and actually took a one run lead into the third inning. Wallys bats put up four runs in the third, and added five more in the fourth.  Team Hill outscored Wally's Team in fifth and closed the gap to just three runs. That is when the heat became a major factor in the game's outcome. Wally's team posted 12 runs in the last two innings while Team Hill went scoreless. Final Score Team Wally 27, Team Hill 12.

Outstanding performances
JR 4-5
Chris Lynch 5-5
Bob z 5-5

Rad 4-4
Bill Testa 4-4

Tuesday 1 July

REMINDER THAT THERE WILL BE NO GAMES THIS FRIDAY
now to the game.....It was one for the ages on field B today with Team Wally and Team Z battling to a 12-12 tie. It certainly didn't look good for Team Z after the 1st inning, as Team Wally got off to a 4-1 lead. Team Z fought back and going into the fifth inning, they had built up a five run lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Wally bangers put up six runs to tie the score. Thank goodness that is all they were allowed to score as they were on a roll. The eighth saw both teams shut out. Team Z managed two runs in the seventh when Rusty walked (to complete another cycle at the plate) and scored on Hector Nestor's home run. Team Wally responded with two runs with two outs. Final score as stated was 12-12.
Outstanding players
Pete Gutenberg 4-4
JR 3-4
Jose Cruz 3-4
Jeff R 3-3
Rusty 4-4 for another cycle
Nestor 3-4 w/homer
Bob Z 3-3
